Fiscal Administrator Recommended to Oversee Jonesboro’s Finances

The State Treasurer says the Town of Jonesboro should have a fiscal administrator to oversee the town’s finances.

The State Treasurer and two other members of the state’s fiscal review committee including the Attorney General and Legislative Auditor voted unanimously in favor of the town having a financial overseer, during a public meeting in Baton Rouge Monday afternoon.

  1. Good Show Says:

Poor Leslie…he has done EVERYTHING all parties ask him to do and look at the prize.

He sure looks upset….bet the ride home was interesting!

Rev Dill, you need to start looking for another gravy train to ride. Your declaration of having no part of handling the money was very interesting…..as Assistant Dep Clerk, you should know all about the money!

Leslie, you may want to purchase yourself a personal auto…might be needing it…the town car needs to get parked at the town hall.

Lovely Tonya Wade….your bonus is gone….the train has stopped!

New Auditors….enjoy your first, and perhaps, last audit in Jonesboro. Why you want to shove Leslie under the bus with you need more time cause he did not hire you soon enough?

    • Show us the MONEY Says:

Rev Dill – I think those three men yesterday might have seen your “I’ll Show You The Money” clip of the Mayor….seems like you sure should know where all the money went!

    • I'll Show you the MONEY...later....lots later! Says:

Oh Yeah….Leslie and Rev Dill have never provide the documents they claim to have in the “I’ll Show you the Money”….

Leslie said at the NAACP rally it was in his trunk and backseat but no one ever got a copy

Leslie told the news reporter from Monroe he had to speak to his attorney before giving the reporter the copy.

So, hey guys…..were is the money and the proof you claim to have?

Maybe you should have shared it with the folks in Baton Rouge….

I like Mr. Purpera asking for a copy of the report he wanted from Leslie…while Leslie was waving a piece of paper in the air…and of course, the paper in Leslie’s hand was not the paper Mr. Purpera wanted….I think the paper in Leslie’s hand was a prop….like when acting on stage!

      • Anchors Away Says:

His entire administration has been a Prop. He has kept it propped up with propaganda and racism. I do think the prop got dislocated yesterday. I also heard on the video the very sound of air being depleted from the mighty sail that has flown full mast for so long. Wonder who is going to help him fold that sail and stow it away. Sail on baby sail on!

  2. Courthouse Time Says:

Let’s see some action in the District Court now….Come on DA Stewart and Judge Teat clear out your case loads and move the cases with Thompson forward….Let these actions be a green light to move forward and do the right thing.

  3. Curiousity Says:

You know if you feel the need to spin, do it good!! What a waste of oxygen!!!!

    • Looming Says:

That is not spinning, that is weaving!!!!!!

      Dream weaver
I’ve just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
      And leave tomorrow behind
      Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
      Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light

Fly me high through the starry skies
      Maybe to an astral plane
      Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today’s pain

      Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
      Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light

Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

      Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
      Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
      Dream weaver
      Dream weaver
      Dream weaver

its not too late to start recall petitoin on Da stewart

  5. Curiousity Says:

Where would I go to check on a recall petition procedure for DA Stewart???

  6. sunrisesunset Says:

Love it, love it, love it. I am waiting on “messy anonymous”. Still have not heard from him.

    Where are you, Messy?

  7. Watch the show again...it is good! Says:

I am wondering why Leslie wanted to know if the action takes place in District Court…..he think he can appeal this or something?

John Kennedy made a good point….that no one who has day to day experience managing the Town’s money has ever appeared in Baton Rouge….

Devine and Dill look like deers caught in the headlights…so odd!

    • Play Ball Says:

I do have to wonder just how confident and bold the mighty 4 feel today……..all the time spent following and defending and trying to bash anyone and everyone that even tried to ask a question from Mr. Allen to anyone that came out and just wanted information.

The new person will not be intimidated by shouting and false accusations, he or she will have the ball and will not let go until the game is over. So, with that thought in mind, I say come on up and Let’s Play Ball!

    • spending spree Says:

He is probably planning to spend as much as he can before it goes to court. Did you notice how he asked if it took effect immediately? He wants to get a few more spending sprees in before he cannot do anything. I only wish he hadn’t left the room before Kennedy stated that the fiscal administrator would be making all of the decisions and merely notify the mayor and council; but, that person would have all the power. It is sad it came to this; but, boy, it was needed. I am hopeful things will get turned around. There will probably be a few hard to swallow decisions to be made; but, if it gets things back on track so be it.

  8. Anonymous Says:

The DA is insisting that the Police Jury give him $ 50,000.00 more for his budget. What is he going to give us in return?

    • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

I hate to say it but you will find out when you hear Stewart utter the words “bend over.”

  9. Anonymous Says:

Messy Anonymous did make one short comment on the other category, but the reason you won’t be hearing much from him now is that his list of “messy people,” (i.e., anybody who finds fault with anything the mayor or the three stooges do) is growing by leaps and bounds. Now the state treasurer, the attorney general, the legislative auditor, the fiscal review committee, sheriff’s office, police department, TV stations, newspapers, websites, and any number of judges and lawyers, have been added to the list of hundreds (maybe thousands) of those who have seen, commented and in some cases acted upon the mismanagement of the Town of Jonesboro during the past 15 months.

    • sunrisesunset Says:

I hope this will open “messy’s” eyes & ears because they have been closed for quite a long time now. Do we think he has seen the “light”, and, heard yet? Probably not!

Anyone with an ounce of common sense, can understand that all of his “messy people” are correct after all.

  10. Anonymous Says:

Liked CPA Kelly Love’s comment when asked to rank the Town of Jonesboro on a 1-10 scale of audit completion, and he said he would give it a zero. Love is with Jay Walker & Co. of Lake Charles, who came on board for the December audit extension.

    • Feeling the Love Says:

Oh Man….this special hand picked auditors giving a zero…Mr. Love not showing much love to the man who hired them!

  11. Anonymous Says:

Will the Town of Jonesboro have to pay the state more than they did Edwards, Wade and Perry for a financial administrator, less, or anything at all? And where will that money come from if the town is $135,000 in the red? Maybe we could take it out of the mayor’s salary.

  12. Anonymous Says:

Blanche Shows has a good column in this week’s Jackson Independent. One correction: She said the mayor gave himself a $30,000 raise. It was $35,000, Blanche, up to $70,000. Wouldn’t want to short-change the poor fellow.

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Loved Mrs. Blanche’s letter today, also. Just wish someone would list in the paper ALL of the corruption from people not paying their water bills for eons, the road runner from Ruston that travels to City Hall just to take the mail to the box, etc. I do not believe most people are aware of some of the issues that have not been printed in the JI.

      • yep Says:

It would be nice if they would print all the names and addresses of people not paying their water bills.

  13. Messy... Says:

See, you folks are so funny! This stuff will all be forgotten soon and our Mayor Thompson will be just fine.

Nothing is gonna happen to the man.

The grant will be coming soon and all will know what a good leader he is for our town.

Devin & Lestevic….you two keep on helping him…you doing good.

Rev Dill – so glad you are his right hand and know the assistant clerk…help them all please to do the very best on the job.

Charla – come on sista…don’t let us down….follow the leader!!!

All you complaining peeps….just stop picking on the wrong group…start looking at the real problems!!!

Anyway, what is wrong with a new modern liquor store downtown? We need businesses!!!

    • concerned citizen Says:

Messy, You NEED TO WAKE UP!!!!!!!

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Messy, you are pathetic. It is so sad that one has to be so stupid. You know, without a doubt, that all IS NOT RIGHT in Jonesboro. Hence, why all this turmoil?

Take a “smart” pill and wise up to the truth.

      • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

He can’t take a smart pill. Remember that the medicine bottles are child proof!

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Yeah, just what Jonesboro needs. NOT! Another liquor store to keep alcoholics drunk. NOT! More money for Jonesboro. NOT! Look at how the downtown can be revitalized. NOT! More drunks hanging around, causing problems, littering downtown, peeing, and who knows what else they do while they are loafing around. NOT!

We do not need a liquor store in downtown or anywhere else for that matter.

      • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

God, I hate to say it sunrisesunset, but I agree with all you say above.

  14. Anonymous Says:

Messy, please tell us exactly what advantage a “new modern liquor store” would be to non-alcoholics in Jonesboro? It would be an advantage to somebody to make money and to alcoholics, but how would it help the teetotaler, law-abiding Christians? How would it make Jonesboro a better town? I bet your minister (if you go to church) is not behind you in this one.

  15. Anonymous Says:

I think Messy is just trying to change the subject away from the mayor and council’s financial failings, and the coming fiscal administrator. I don’t think they are going to be able to try to get a liquor store or anything else for the next few months. Got all on the table they can handle (maybe more).

  16. Anonymous Says:

Why would a liquor store or any other business want to come to Jonesboro in the shape they are in? The owners of these businesses can read the papers and see on the TV what is happening to Jonesboro. There are plenty of well-run towns available without them coming to one whose leaders spend most of their time in court or defending their actions against state auditors and finance committees.

  17. Noname Says:

I think Messy is trying to have a little fun at all your expenses. Surely no one in their right mind would write the trash he/she does.
    .
I believe Leslie Thompson may be looking at some jail time! He should be jailed for playing the race card and causing divisiveness between whites and blacks. If he can’t explain how he spent (squandered) the money; he’s got trouble in Jonesboro City.

  18. Anonymous Says:

I think Messy’s problem is he visited too many of those “nice modern” stores while he was in Baton Rouge.

  19. Anonymous Says:

Messy says he is still down in Baton Rouge. Maye he is the mayor’s ambassador to try to get a new, modern liquor store to come to Jonesboro. If that’s the case, he will probably be there a long time.

  20. Drinks for all Says:

Maybe not just a liquor store in downtown Jonesboro for a new business….how about a saloon???

  21. Anonymous Says:

They were talking about a hotel coming here two years ago, and I haven’t seen one yet.

    • Drinks for all Says:

Maybe a hotel with a eats and drinks…..since Jboro is a hot vacation spot for man!

  22. Anonymous Says:

To show the intellect of this whole conversation. What the heck is the difference in buying a bottle of whiskey in a “modern liquor store” as opposed to a run of the mill store? Is there different whiskey in the same bottles??

  23. Anonymous Says:

“New” and “modern” were Messy’s terms. Note that he still hasn’t answered the question of what good it would do the average citizen in Jonesoro that doesn’t drink to have one here, new or old. It would be just as good to have businesses that don’t serve liquor. Not much chance of getting either kind here, though.
