Live From Jackson Parish Courthouse

So far this morning, a number of criminal cases disposed of before Second Judicial (Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson parishes) District Court Division B Judge Judge Jenifer Clason.

Appearing for the state in the matter of the motion to quash is District Attorney Jonathan Stewart. Monroe attorney Louis Scott is appearing for the defense.

The attorneys and the judge are now in a pretrial conference.

12:10 PM Update

Scott and Stewart filing new documents.

Scott says primary flaw is that there are no grounds for subpoena. Subpoena does not say who is being investigated or why – there are no specifics in the requests.

12:15PM

Stewart says subpoenas are a “broad tool” to investigate. Now citing court cases. Investigation is about finances of Jonesboro.

Stewart says the documents are public record and could have been obtained via a public records request.

“The town has no expectation of privacy in regard to the documents in question,” said Stewart.

12:20PM

Scott now rebutting. Again saying there were no reasonable grounds. Arguing that you must state than an offense is believed to have been committed.

Stewart: Case law supports ability to issue subpoena prior to charges being filed.

12:30 PM

Judge: Motion is denied to quash.

12:35PM

Judge now advising defense of appeal procedure.

It looks like this is not a good day for the mayor. First motion is denied to quash and getting arrested all on the same day!

Sad day for Jonesboro….too much drama….

a black mayor dont stand a chance in a white hic town, nobody said a word when the other mayors did nothing for the black communities but just as soon as the black mayor start helping his own people contraversay arise…typical

Please share what Mayor Thompson has done regarding “helping his own people”?

    • Anonymous Says:

You are dead wrong. An honest black mayor would excell in Jonesboro.

A mayor who was not greedy.

A mayor who understood the accounting procedures needed to balance the books and manage the money.

A mayor who understood the procedures used in running a town according to the laws set forth by the government.

A mayor who did not divide the folks based on skin tones.

Just want a good mayor….red, yellow, black or white…

I work for one of his departments every day.

He is nothing but a low-life thief.

And, yes I am a proud BLACK MAN.

        But nothing like this person.

If the mayor knew what he was doing, things would be going very smoothly.

Jonesboro, is not a white hick town. Remember, there are many blacks living inside the city limits of which the esteemed Thompson is mayor. You do not realize that even if the present mayor was white, there would be just as much backlash as there has been with Thompson. I do not EVER recall ANY backlash with past white mayors. That’s because they had business sense, and they knew how to run a business.

As much as you choose to ignore the truth, Thompson does not know squat about business affairs.

Rev Dill’s website offers ministry cakes….special cakes for special people on special occasions.

Let’s send one…..who should we order it for?

    What flavor should we order?

When is the next town meeting? I need to come!

  6. interesting Says:

So, now what happens? Do they have to refund the town the money they have spent on attorneys since they lost the case? Does the town have to pay for the appeals?

    • Anonymous Says:

It ain’t over…more money to be paid for attorney’s and filing fees…..
If the mayor really cared about Jonesboro, he should make a deal for less time in Jail and just RESIGN!

So sad Leslie did not make it to court today and neither did his female legal eagle. She went to his booking instead.

Is she going to bill the TOJ for her time with Leslie today?

  8. Anonymous Says:

Essmeier vs. The Town of Jonesboro (case # 32584) Writ Application filed by Leslie’s attorneys has been accepted by the Louisiana’s Second Circuit Court of Appeal.

Get the Rev Dill’s spin on it at his website THE FOUNT.

He is one busy guy…..or is he paid to publish information on his personal web site by the Town of Jonesboro?

Still not job description….Still not certain of his salary or qualifications.

He is the Town of Jonesboro official WHAT?

  9. Anonymous Says:

Aren’t appeals always heard? It’s not a special thing because your application is accepted by the Appeals court.

    • Anonymous Says:

Good question…..any body know the answer?

      • Anonymous Says:

Yes – I know the answer. Rev. Dill is the Mayor’s press secretary!

      • Anonymous Says:

New word for the day …provocative : tending or serving to provoke; inciting, stimulating, irritating, or vexing.

Rev Dill states on his sight that folks in Jonesboro find Judge Teat’s ruling provocative.

You pick what it does to you….stimulate or irritate or vex?

        • Anonymous Says:

I think the Mayor was quite provocative on Sat at the concert.

His actions to Renee where inciting and irritating and vexing…thus leading up to his arrest.

His laying on her as they fell or as he touched her was NOT STIMULATING I would think.

Not to worry you all, it’s time to pull out the big guns. It’s not Howdy Doody Time……it’s Fannin & Kolstelka & Stewart time…….to the rescue boys. Thompson has done it again. He’s in a heap of trouble.
