Another Destin Junket Upcoming

The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association will hold the 2021 Louisiana Sheriffs’ and Wardens’ Annual Conference  scheduled for July 25-29, 2021 in Destin, Florida at the San Destin Hilton. Any questions, please call 225.343.8402.

Meanwhile, later today:

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Louisiana’s top law enforcement leaders are scheduled to hold a news conference at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 8 to speak in opposition to the proposal for state legislators to convene for a special session and override Gov. John Bel Edwards’ veto of Senate Bill 118 (SB 118).

The bill, which Gov. Edwards vetoed on June 24, proposed to allow Louisiana residents 21 and older to carry a concealed carry weapon without a permit.

Louisiana’s top law enforcement leaders support the governor’s veto of SB 118.

On Thursday, police chiefs and sheriffs say they will discuss how if the legislature overrides the governor’s veto, it will lead to “more dangerous crimes throughout communities.”

I can understand the concern but in other states that have this law we have not seen an uptick in violent crimes. Look at Arkansas for one. Infact in some we have seen a decrease in violent crimes in some of these states.

La. Sheriff association almost always support Democratic governors and their leftwing agendas. No surprise here. The will of the people means nothing to them.

Why can’t they have annual conference in the Great State of La. Oh I get it they go oUt of state where they kick up their heels, drink and be merry.

2nd amendment …… the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

Shall not be infringed. My interpretation of this is that any law, permit or requirement to keep and bear arms is an infringement of the 2nd amendment.

Does law enforcement really think that CWP reduce crime? And that not having CWP will increase crime? The last time I check criminals do not care about the law and don’t have a CWP anyway.

Only law abiding citizens have CWP so how does not requiring CWP increase crime?

If a meeting is head out of state then the public meetings law is void for any meeting held there.

You will never know what sheriff or chief is against or for concealed carry.

We can already carry openly without a permit so I don’t see the big deal.

If a person with bad intentions who do u think they are going to shoot first? The person wearing a visible openly carry or a conceal.carry person?

      • Anonymous Says:

That has nothing to do with my point. If we can open carry without a permit (training, etc), then the governor’s argument against concealed carry (because of the need for background & training) is moot.

        • Anonymous Says:

The point is protecting yourself. If you are open carrying u could be the first to be shoot

          • Anonymous Says:

The people I know who open carry have a lot of situational awareness. It’s a mindset. Not saying everyone who open carries is like that. But those I know that do open carry would be very aware of the possibility of violence against them and are always prepared. Not everyone is a lemming…

            • Anonymous Says:

Cops open carry and are trained to be aware of the possibilities but way too many are caught by surprise

    • Anonymous Says:

You don’t see the big deal. You lie or you dumb.

      • Anonymous Says:

You don’t get it. I said if we can already open carry without government requirements, then the governor’s argument against concealed carry that it foregoes the current training requirement is no longer valid. If we can open carry, why not concealed carry? Don’t start throwing around words like lie and dumb.
