Now that the heavy lifting of seizing more money from taxpayers got done last week, the Ruston City Council was able to get back to regular business for last night’s meeting.
The meeting lasted about 15 minutes.
First up, an ordinance was introduced setting the date, time, and place of next year’s council meetings.
Traditionally, the meeting dates are the first business Monday of the month at 5:30 PM at the Ruston City Hall. The only meeting that deviates from that schedule is the 8/19/19 meeting, which will be at 6:30 PM. Usually, that meeting serves as a budget review where the next fiscal year’s budget is introduced.
Assistant Public Works Director John Freeman reported that the airport received a $46 thousand grant from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to replace runway reflectors.
Finally, the council approved 90-day deadlines for improvements to two substandard structures, one at 1109 Oakdale, and the other at 800 Lewis.

So when will Walker be asking for more money from taxpayers? Reckon the utility bills will be adding more line items to generate monies for the electric fund. Raise the facility and parks rental fees. Terminate ___ number of employees. Prime ___ number of older employees to go ahead and retire. Now where else can he find money. I hear he’s got a working list of things to do.

It is surprising that he hasn’t gotten rid of those with the loose tongues. I suspect he gave instructions to the one from his office spreading all the gossip as her stories seems to contradict what really happened. Curley and blondy on the other hand aren’t having much good to say about anybody. They sure cover lots of territory. Like somebody said before, you can’t make up some of this stuff.

From what I hear, the new controller is right out of college – very young. Seems to be in keeping with his pattern. Was that position ever posted? Probably not. Mayor has circumvented that requirement for public positions.

Little lady, I am doing good by calling out the whiners on this forum. It’s easy to be anonymous and post gossip all day long, but if you dish it out then you got to take it too. I ain’t got nothing personal against you, but I call it like I see em. Take my advice, go to the council meetings and air your grievances. You’d garner a lot more respect that way

Like it or not, “little lady” did bring to the surface issues related to this mayor’s administration, which for the most part, have proven to be true. So, let’s just sit back and watch. Mayor will prove himself just like he has over the years, be it professionally or personally. Period. Final.
