In a special called meeting set for tomorrow (Thursday, November 29) at 5:00 PM at Ruston City Hall, Ruston’s Board of Aldermen will decide the fate of Mayor Ronny Walker’s latest tax and spend scheme.
Up for consideration are two ordinances.
One amends a previous ordinance establishing the boundaries of a proposed tax district that consists of all the restaurants and hotels within the city limits of Ruston.
See here the document.
Also, the council will vote on the ordinance that actually levies the tax, a 1.75% tax on sales at those establishments.
Here’s the document.
Ruston City Hall is located at 401 North Trenton, and the meeting will be in the first floor courtroom.
Here’s the agenda.

Your description the best ever and so accurate. ” Walker’s latest tax and spend scheme “

Ruston Leader says Christmas lighting now moved to tomorrow night. You know when Walker waves his wand at 6. How does that happen when special council meeting at 5? Meeting could last a long time since public allowed to talk and question and crowd expected. An hour definitely not long enough between the two events.
11/28/2018 at 8:34 pm |
Mayor did not think many would show up for the meeting since it was on a Thursday night at 5. He thought we would all forget about it. And as for moving the parade up one night, his special assistant didn’t even think about the special meeting. Shows you just how their minds work. This is typical of how the office operates – by the seat of their britches (I mean short skirts).
11/28/2018 at 9:02 pm |
Oh they need to cancel one of them. The crowds are coming to city hall meeting tomorrow. That’s more important than dumb Christmas lights. He can’t keep taxing us. We don’t give a crap about Christmas lights or a parade.
11/28/2018 at 9:46 pm |
It’s a done deal! The meeting will be over in 20 minutes with Walker’s tax passing.
11/28/2018 at 9:49 pm |
Don’t count on it Walker!
11/28/2018 at 9:48 pm |
Kourtney Keim, mayor’s assistant, made announcement in Leader that parade was moved up one day. I guess she didn’t think about the meeting at 5 since she doesn’t typically attend the council meetings unless it is to give out those dumb plastic clocks to recognize long years of service of retirees. I should say “some” of the retirees as not all retirees are recognized by mayor. Wonder why? Who makes up that list?
11/29/2018 at 8:45 am |
Leader was a bit misleading. The Christmas lighting ceremony and a concert are planned for tonight. Everyone just assumed the parade was part of the festivities.
11/29/2018 at 8:47 am |
The mayor’s high dollar assistant.
11/28/2018 at 9:57 pm |
We’re going to get this tax passed. It’s not like you sheep will actually stand up and do anything!
11/29/2018 at 7:50 am |
It’s all crumbling and the city residents are mad
11/29/2018 at 8:19 am |
Yes we will. City residents are allowed to speak at this public meeting.
11/29/2018 at 8:33 am |
Praying God will prevail against this leadership. Many good Christians in Ruston. I thought a few of the council was but they must fear Walker.
11/29/2018 at 6:41 am |
The parade is Dec 8th
11/29/2018 at 8:45 am |
Christmas lighting ceremony and a concert are planned for tonight.
11/29/2018 at 10:01 am |
I can see this happening…I hope not but likely. Wouldn’t surprise us if there is a split vote. 2/2 with alderman Lewis absent and mayor gets to break the tie. Alderman Lewis, you can make a difference tonight for the good of our City by voting NO. Will you do the right thing?
11/29/2018 at 10:07 am |
Hope Jedd does right thing. His mama would be sad if he doesn’t.
11/29/2018 at 10:17 am |
Council needs to realize that Walker won’t make it another term. His private & public life falling apart. Do they want to be part of a new and better administration several years from now that can repair what Walker has done? Or do they want to be remembered as being part of the problem and be associated with him? Tonight they can take a stand and be remembered for that and show the city you care. Otherwise they can look at not being reelected. Along with the mayor.
11/29/2018 at 10:31 am |
Be remembered for the good you have done, by stopping this runaway train.
11/29/2018 at 11:38 am |
Jedd Lewis told me he was voting for the tax. He said “We need to keep the MOMENTUM”.
11/29/2018 at 11:46 am |
Jedd Lewis needs to spit that koolaid out.
11/29/2018 at 12:17 pm |
Kinda of like a Ponzi scheme. If the money stops everything falls apart.
11/29/2018 at 2:21 pm |
Jedd seem to be brain dead.
11/30/2018 at 9:33 am |
Jedd doesn’t know how to manage money either!
11/29/2018 at 11:40 am |
Call your council members and show up for the meeting this afternoon, otherwise taxpayers lose.
11/29/2018 at 11:44 am |
Be remembered for having a backbone and doing what your constituents elected you to do…..be their voice. I promise you whatever backdoor deal this shady mayor has promised will never happen. He just wants the tax passed. He is not a man of his word.
11/29/2018 at 12:39 pm |
Certainly not comforting knowing we have a crooked leader and council members who have been fooled.
11/29/2018 at 2:25 pm |
Not comforting indeed thanks to the spineless ones who are afraid of the mayor. What can he do? He can’t kick you off the Board. He can’t dock your pay. Remember the taxpayers are paying your salary and elected YOU to that position. Don’t be part of his underhandedness.
11/29/2018 at 3:34 pm |
But remember these same council members also gave themselves a raise recently too. Same time mayor gave himself $20,000 raise yearly. Yet he wants new taxes? So crooked his eyes are crossed.
11/29/2018 at 3:38 pm |
Yes Walker is powerless over the council. They need to not fear him like city employees do. He is losing his power quickly .
11/29/2018 at 3:57 pm |
Jedd Lewis is a whimp. Never has taken a real stand on anything. Don’t know how he ever got re-elected. Very disappointing but not unexpected.
11/29/2018 at 7:36 pm |
How did the meeting go tonight?
11/29/2018 at 7:48 pm |
Strangest thing happened, only one of you showed up tonight to speak against the tax. There was an overwhelming response from folks who were in favor of the tax, including a restaurant owner. From yalls big talk today, you would have thought a mob would have shown up with pitchforks and torches. But we knew all yalls big, anonymous talk, was nothing but trash. Find something better to do with your time, like find a job.
11/29/2018 at 7:59 pm |
Strange….How anonymous are you?? Hello!!!
11/29/2018 at 8:08 pm |
Well we talked to the aldermen and knew what the outcome would be. And as for you, when the legislative auditors office comes knocking on your door, you are going to think trash! One day it will all catch up with you.
11/29/2018 at 8:24 pm |
Knock knock!!!
11/30/2018 at 12:01 am |
Who’s there? This all you got?
11/30/2018 at 9:35 am |
No, we’ve got lots of stuff.
11/30/2018 at 10:00 am |
I sure hope you don’t live in a glass house, because “we” becomes “I” really quick when the heats on….
11/29/2018 at 8:40 pm |
Which restaurant owner? Making sure we don’t support it in the future.
11/29/2018 at 8:44 pm |
Look at knoe news at 10.
11/29/2018 at 8:49 pm |
Definitely will. We eat out frequently but will no longer give Walker our money.
11/29/2018 at 8:50 pm |
Flying Burger.
11/29/2018 at 9:34 pm |
That’s such a dumb restaurant. It figures. We went there once. No quality restaurants would support this. Amazed it even stays open. Only very old people go there.
11/29/2018 at 9:06 pm |
He would speak out. They own 2 hotels that will benefit the most from the tax!
11/29/2018 at 11:40 pm |
Hotel tax is remitted to the city. Hotel doesn’t keep it. Wish we had more informed folks on this forum
11/30/2018 at 12:54 am |
Sales taxes are collected by the LP Sales Tax Commissioner.
11/29/2018 at 7:45 pm |
Tax ordinance passed.
11/29/2018 at 8:23 pm |
Knock, knock!!!
11/29/2018 at 10:04 pm |
Who’s there? The unemployment line?
11/29/2018 at 10:40 pm |
😂😂😂😂 they don’t want to pick this fight
11/29/2018 at 9:47 pm |
So when folks quit frequenting the restaurant and hotels, and they will, you have Ronny Walker to thank.
11/29/2018 at 10:07 pm |
ALL his ex wives thank him too. Is the public aware he’s no longer married?
11/29/2018 at 10:21 pm |
Yes, the former wives saw the “other” side of him that those working closest to him have seen…and folks, it is not a pretty picture.
11/29/2018 at 11:28 pm |
What kinda picture? How come the good people voted him in with so many exes?
11/29/2018 at 11:35 pm |
The public wasn’t aware. He only married the current ” recently divorced one ” about 5 years ago. Around time if first run for mayor . None of his baggage came out then.
11/29/2018 at 11:36 pm |
Also check out Walkers history back to years ago when he was youth pastor at Temple.
11/30/2018 at 12:56 am |
Now that’s really nit a pretty picture.
11/30/2018 at 11:07 am |
He lived the cruises and pretty chaperones.
11/30/2018 at 1:16 am |
Walker is a smooth, good ole boy talking guy. He has weaseled his way into the fabric of our community. He was advised that to be elected, he needed to be married so he married a lovely lady and she helped him get elected. She stuck around until his second unopposed term started and things got intense, she filed and the rest is history. He has always been a ladies’ man.
11/30/2018 at 1:25 am |
Walker loves power, $$$, and younger women by hook or by crook…not necessarily people. If you don’t live people, you don’t need to lead them.
11/30/2018 at 8:11 am |
He left all the ex wives. The last one stood by him through all that political garbage and then HE filed after he was re-elected. The wandering eye got the best of him again.
11/30/2018 at 8:39 am |
I thought she filed due to some ugly stuff?
11/30/2018 at 8:57 am |
Pretty sure the ugly came out after
11/30/2018 at 9:27 am |
According to Legal News, she filed.
11/30/2018 at 10:30 am |
Oh okay. Good for her!
11/30/2018 at 4:02 pm
Is it true he has a heavy hand?
11/29/2018 at 10:16 pm |
Is this anything like what the swamps up to over in Monroe and West Monroe? The downtown part of Monroe wants some kinda tax district or tax development district. Seems to me like old Echols over in Monroe wants the tax credits to go to the businesses he owns. Now that new woman mayor in West Monroe wants a restaurant tax. It’s confusing to us simple minded folks but sure does smell funny.
11/29/2018 at 10:17 pm |
I like exposing the swamp for all the corruption.
11/29/2018 at 10:26 pm |
Well if you turn over enough dirt, you will find the corruption. There seems to be quite a bit of both here in Ruston.
11/29/2018 at 10:43 pm |
I turned over the dirt on the new Judge over yonder who screwed over the World War 2 vet to pad his own pockets.
11/29/2018 at 10:55 pm |
Not sure about that lady mayor over there passing taxes….might have better opposition than Ruston had
11/29/2018 at 11:18 pm |
I heard over at the huddle house rob shadoin resigned due to some corruption. Not sure I believe it but…..
11/29/2018 at 11:24 pm |
That’s where I got the info on old Bruce Almighty Hampton and the WWII vet was at the Huddle House. Rob Shadoin resigned so he could take on a swampy lawyering role in the Wildlife and Fisheries. Wonder what he’s fishing for…..if you know what I mean. Higher state retirement I reckon. Them deputy under secretaries and chief assistants to the deputies make a bit more money is my guess.
11/29/2018 at 10:35 pm |
The vote was 3/2. Surely Pearce and Siegmund voted no because of their constituents’ wishes and what they thought was right. Now do you expect me to believe the other three wards all wanted the tax when two clearly didn’t? Give me a break.
11/29/2018 at 10:39 pm |
Wonder what did Walker promise the three who voted yes?
11/30/2018 at 5:03 pm |
In response to the heavy hand question, ask one of the x -Mrs. Walker.
12/03/2018 at 10:43 am |
Check police records…
12/03/2018 at 8:16 pm |
Yes that . He probably hope it stays secret.
12/03/2018 at 8:47 pm |
It won’t. Too many in town already know about the heavy hand . Disgusting . All the wives need to talk.
12/04/2018 at 12:56 am |
Are there police records?
12/04/2018 at 7:38 am |
Police records are public records.
12/04/2018 at 10:31 am |
See for yourself
12/04/2018 at 11:38 am |
Probably no “records” available as Chief probably “handled” the situations.
12/04/2018 at 1:12 pm |
You just walk up to the window at the police station and ask. Ask about the wives, not the mayor- you won’t get that info!
03/12/2019 at 5:35 pm |
Interesting concept
03/13/2019 at 9:28 pm |
Interesting concept
