Sumlin’s Next Court Date April 19

An April 19 court date to hear any defense motions that may be filed by William Sumlin was set yesterday in Third Judicial (Lincoln, Union Parishes) District Court in Ruston. Sumlin was accused last year of indecent behavior with a juvenile. He is a former State Representative from District Twelve.

Representing the State, Assistant District Attorney Lewis Jones said there was not yet “a resolution” in the case, and the hearing would be necessary.

Standing in for Sumlin’s attorney Lavalle Salomon was public defender James Buckley, who had no objection to the hearing date.

Salomon was a significant contributor to Jones’ campaign for district judge in 2014. See here the documents:

Oh what a tangled web we weave. The publisher of LPNO is to be commended for digging up the tidbit on donations made to Jones’ campaign for judge. It is germane to the discussion. It should also be worth mentioning that some degree of political ambition is becoming apparent on the part of Mr. Jones and as such will require some tough decisions regarding his balance of donors and the targets of his prosecution.

I am quite happy with Mr. Jones becoming a prosecutor given his vast defense experience. It will serve him well so long as he can navigate the political side of the office.

Mr. Jones will have a very unpleasant experience if he runs for political office again. He has crossed people that he should not have. What goes around comes around.

I was trying to throw him a bone but he will never get my vote. EVER!!! He is an actor, in a purely Shakespearean way!

What in the world does is wrong with you? This man committed a crime…the worst of worst crimes! It shouldn’t matter if he is a former representative, a former president or a former priest! He should be charged and sentenced for the crime he committed. Some people in this world are so sick! Everyone wants to bring politics into the mix. It’s what is right or wrong…it’s not right or wrong or politics. It’s what is right or what is wrong. He did something wrong. Jones is doing his job! Jones has done a better job than anyone that has EVER been in that position and would have been an even better Judge. Ask anyone in law enforcement or anything that has been a victim what they think about Jones. I hope he gets the max sentence! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Cary Brown actually tried his murder cases and got life sentences for his defendants. Last murder case out of Lincoln Parish that I read about in the paper was one that the defendant shot the victim twice in the head and Lewis Jones plea bargained it down to manslaughter. I thought that he had done an excellent job as public defender in that one and then realized that he was the prosecutor! I wonder what that victim would say about Jones. Try that in your pipe.

Well… Yes I know about that case too, the lady got a sentence of 40 years and she was 50 something at the time of sentence…that’s a life sentence for her. Lewis Jones saved the tax payers of Lincoln Parish tons of money for the same results by not taking it to trial! That’s smart prosecution. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! I don’t smoke…it’s bad for my health! πŸ‘πŸ»

Btw….you’ve been out in the pasture for way too long. πŸ‚πŸ„πŸ‚πŸπŸ

          • Out to Pasture Says:

If lewis jones wants to save the taxpayers of Lincoln Parish some money, do something about the pre-trial crowd at the detention center. How many trials did your boy actually conduct in 2015 and how many felonies did he re-set for a later date?
