The Jackson Parish Police Jury met in special session Monday, November 23, 2015, at 5:30 PM in thePolice Jury Meeting Room ofthe Jackson Parish Courthouse. Members present: Todd Culpepper, AmyMagee, Billy Bryant, Maxie Monroe, Charles Garrett and Lynn Treadway. Absent: Eddie Langston.
Mr. Langston arrived and the vice president relinquished the chair to the president.
Motion Ms. Monroe seconded Ms. Magee to appropriate $50,000 to the Town of Jonesboro. A roll call vote was taken.

Motion passed with 5 yeas, 2 nays
Motion Mr. Garrett seconded Ms. Monroe to rescind the resolution adopted on December 16, 2013reducing the compensation of members of the Jackson Parish Police Jury to $600.00 per month effective with the new term of jurors effective January 11, 2016. Motion carried with Mr. Culpepper nay.

Spent the entire month of November in the hospital and know nothing about what is going on in J-Town and could care less. I have dropped off this post and just wanted people to know that I am gone. I see that the vile and vulgar Oldman is still opining as if he knows what he is talking about. Check the salary of the mayor and council members of San Antonio: it is way, way, way below that of your public servants in Jonesboro. Adios folks (and thanks for paying for my stay in an excellent medical facility).

Obama completed the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and Iraq (something started by George W. Bush)
The USA has experienced more than 60 straight months of growth after inheriting a mess from George W Bush,
The stock market has risen from around 6,000 when George W. Bush left office to over 17,000 now.
The unemployment rate has dropped from around 10% during George W. Bush’s last year to 5% now.
The republican congress will not do a thing to support Obama (for example they refuse to approve nomination after nomination.
Where you get that we are close to being a 3rd world country is beyond me. We are still the greatest country in the world with the strongest military known to man. You have your head so far up your ass that Trump is bound to look good amongst the turds.
I am not the least bit interested in discussing politics with you for your knowledge of the subject is piss ant poor. I want to hear from you all the lies that I told and all the bad scoop you have on me.
Oh, our worthless congress refused to pass a bill that would make it illegal to sell any type of gun to someone on the no-fly list. To get back on subject for a moment, I agree that for meeting once a month and having other jobs to fall back on, $600 a month is plenty sufficient for the JPPJ in Jonesboro. That is $7200 a year and when a juror misses a meeting, no deduction is made to that member’s pay (and it should be). Your mayor makes $70,000 a year which, to me, defies logic. He is serving just over 5,000 people.
Our mayor here in San Antonio, by a law passed in 2015, is considered a full time volunteer position and draws a salary of $61,725. Mind you, San Antonio is the 7th or 8th city in the United States with a population exceeding 1,300,000 (just a little more than Jonesboro). Our council members, by that same law are considered to be full time volunteers and draw $45,722 a year.
We have a city manager (Sheryl Scully) who is paid over $400,000 a year. Others in the city government make more than the mayor and council members.
I am looking forward to the day that the JPPJ raises their salary and the comments that will be made on this forum.

Most of these jurors have full-time employment making good money, but still they want to fatten their pocketbook even more at the expense of the citizens of the parish. At the most, they should get only a nominal fee for serving. After all, they are a public SERVANT.

I feel a great sorrow for the veterans who are homeless but there is nothing I can do for them. Most served just three or four years and are not eligible for any type of pension unless they suffered some sort of injury and are eligible for disability pay. All any of them have to do is walk into a VA facility (like I did) and ask for help. Waiting periods are long because there are not enough doctors and nurses and there are millions of veteerans. The War Between the States was a tragic event brought on by the South when they (11 states) violated the United States Constitution by rebelling against the government that they were a part of. The Constitution tells how a territory can become a state but no where in it does it address how a state can leave the Union. Once in, always in. In other words the South committed a criminal act and the government of the United States brought them back into the Union. Trump claimed that economic growth has “never” been below zero until last quarter’s drop, which is far from true. It has been below zero 42 times since 1946.
◾He said “there are no jobs” to be had. In fact, there were 5.4 million job openings recorded at the end of April, the most in 15 years.
◾He said the “real” unemployment rate is “anywhere from 18 to 20 percent” and “maybe even 21 percent.” We see no factual basis for this opinion.
◾He boasted he would have blocked new Ford plants in Mexico by threatening to impose a 35 percent tax on vehicles and parts made in Mexico and shipped to the U.S. But only Congress can impose taxes and such a tax would violate the North American Free Trade Agreement.
◾Trump claimed the five Taliban leaders exchanged for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl “are now back on the battlefield trying to kill us.” But all five remain in Qatar, where they continue to be monitored and are subject to a travel ban, according to the State Department.
◾He also made the misleading claim that health care premium costs are going “up 29, 39, 49 and even 55 percent.” He’s talking about some proposed rate increases on the individual market that still need regulatory approval. There are also proposed rate decreases or single-digit increases that did not have to be submitted for review.

In a tweet, Trump demanded an apology, citing as evidence one news story about an alleged incident that was unattributed, unverified and not televised. Trump “heard” that Obama is “thinking about signing an executive order where he wants to take your guns away.” If so, he misheard. What Obama reportedly considered was requiring large-volume private gun dealers to conduct background checks, not confiscating firearms from those who own them.
Trump said he “heard” the Obama administration plans to accept 200,000 Syrian refugees — even upping that wildly inaccurate number to 250,000 in another speech. Nope and nope. The number is about 10,000.
Trump said he got to know Putin “very well” while the two were on CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Nope. The two men were interviewed separately, in different countries thousands of miles apart.
Trump claimed his campaign is “100 percent” self-funded. Nope. At the time, more than 50 percent of his campaign’s funds had come from outside contributors.
Trump said his tax plan is revenue neutral. Nope. The pro-business Tax Foundation estimated the Trump plan would reduce revenues to the Treasury by more than $10 trillion over 10 years, even assuming his plan would create economic growth.
Trump told the story of a 2-year old who got autism a week after the child got a vaccine. But there’s no evidence of such a link. The study that claimed to have found a link between vaccines and autism has been exposed as an “elaborate fraud.” It was retracted five years ago by the journal that published it, and the author was stripped of his license to practice medicine in Britain.
Trump said Mexico doesn’t have a birthright citizenship policy. It does.
Trump claimed credit for getting Ford Motor Co. to move a plant from Mexico to Ohio. Ford says that’s baloney; it made the decision years before Trump even announced his run for president.
Trump denied that he ever called female adversaries some of these things: “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.” He used all of those terms.

Gonna be missing for a week or so – more surgery on my right arm and there are three or four cancerous growth on the right side of my face that have to be removed. After that I have a visit with ENT to have the path to my stomach scoped out to see if there is an obstruction, Then its off to my oncologist to see if I am still in remission or heading for the death bed. $600 or $1200. At either rate they are over paid. My personal feeling is that they should be paid $50 a meeting and if they miss a meeting, deduct $50 from their pay for they did not earn a cent for that meeting. If you haven’t figured it out, $50 a meeting comes out to be $600 a year. The only difference I suggest is the deduction for missed meetings. For the amount of work they allegedly do, $100 a meeting is way too much, but then again, I don’t live in Jonesboro. Just expressing my two cents worth. This post was on topic.

I wasn’t very clear in my post of 12/28/2015 @6:20 PM. It is my belief that $600.00 A YEAR is sufficient for the JPPJ. What do they do to earn $600.00 a meeting (don’t they just meet once a month?). $50.00 per meeting with a penalty for missing a meeting seems like a good thing. $50.00 per meeting would be a savings of $6600.00 per year and (1) that money would go back into the bank account to be used on parish projects in each district; (2) such a small “salary” would chase away the money grubbers who want the money only as an addition to what they already make at their regular jobs; (3) such an arrangement would attract only “true public servants” and that would be a major benefit for the citizens of Jackson Parish. As my favorite sportscaster here in San Antonio says- “That’s my opinion. Now let’s here yours.” As for health insurance, I have no comment on that. Mileage would give the less than honest a way to make additional funds and I would oppose that. TA TA and 9292!

The idiots in Oregon have struck They have taken over a federal building that was closed and empty for the holidays. Their aim is to hold it for “years” if need be. $600 or $1200. At either rate they are over paid. My personal feeling is that they should be paid $50 a meeting and if they miss a meeting, deduct $50 from their pay for they did not earn a cent for that meeting. If you haven’t figured it out, $50 a meeting comes out to be $600 a year. The only difference I suggest is the deduction for missed meetings. For the amount of work they allegedly do, $100 a meeting is way too much, but then again, I don’t live in Jonesboro. Just expressing my two cents worth. This post was on topic.
