Louisiana Legislature Take Note

From today’s New York Times:

The Real Reason College Tuition Costs So Much

Interestingly, increased spending has not been going into the pockets of the typical professor. Salaries of full-time faculty members are, on average, barely higher than they were in 1970. Moreover, while 45 years ago 78 percent of college and university professors were full time, today half of postsecondary faculty members are lower-paid part-time employees, meaning that the average salaries of the people who do the teaching in American higher education are actually quite a bit lower than they were in 1970.

By contrast, a major factor driving increasing costs is the constant expansion of university administration. According to the Department of Education data, administrative positions at colleges and universities grew by 60 percent between 1993 and 2009, which Bloomberg reported was 10 times the rate of growth of tenured faculty positions.

Even more strikingly, an analysis by a professor at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, found that, while the total number of full-time faculty members in the C.S.U. system grew from 11,614 to 12,019 between 1975 and 2008, the total number of administrators grew from 3,800 to 12,183 — a 221 percent increase.

Great article…just like city government, Try to get the city administration to do a job. You may wait forever unless you know someone. When it rained last it flooded. 3 people were shot on the northside of Monroe, one died. Two were patrons outside of the 6th Street bar. So far no one has been arrested. Top heavy with cronies that do nothing but promote Mayo.

helenT,all Gov.has got top heavy with people that make their own laws. Jonesboro,Gibsland, Simsboro,Ruston,Monroe,Winnfield and look at the things our President has done. All to help themselves and their friends. But we keep on electing the best(crooks) money can buy. Next election let’s vote the crooks out,we don’t need the best we need the most honest people in office. It’s almost going to be funny when the money runs out, then we’ll get people who want to serve the people and not themselves.
    Have a good day,

Any professor at a Louisiana University could have told you this. But you were too busy calling them “deadheads” to ask.

I guess its okay though because we have a fancy-pants northern newspaper telling us.

    • Oldman Says:

Louisiana Universty is part of the problem,we have to have someone to get the truth out. The Universty would never publish anything bad about themselves,so that’s were this “fancy-pants northern newspaper” comes in. Thank you “fancy-pants northern newspaper”.Keep it up.
      Have a good day,

“were” should be “where”. Only an idiot can’t spell “where” and Donald Billie Davis is that Idiot. DUH!!!!

  4. GovernmentSucks Says:

Compare basic tuition at LA Tech: $98 per quarter in Fall 1976; $2100 today.
That’s a lot more than inflation during the same time period.
