Heather Walker to Finish Hubby’s LPPJ Term

Heather Walker, wife of newly-elected Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker, was last night elected on a 7-4 vote to serve out her husband’s term on the Lincoln Parish Police Jury (LPPJ). The term for the District Twelve seat will last until the end of 2015. Police Jury elections are set for Saturday, October 24.

As we had earlier reported, the two nominees were Walker and Aaron James. Walker was nominated by Walter Pullen, and James by Theresa Wyatt.

Voting for Walker were:

Hazel Hunter (District Two)
Bobby Bennett (District Three)
Randy Roberson (District Four)
David Hammons (District Five)
Walter Pullen (District Six)
Jody Backus (District Seven)
Skip Russell (District Eight)

Voting for James were:

Theresa Wyatt (District One)
Joe Henderson (District Nine)
Nancy Wilson (District Ten)
Sharyon Mayfield (District Eleven)

Prior to the vote, Juror Jody Backus said that Ronny Walker visited with several of the constituents and was told that his wife should finish his term.

Said Backus, “He reported that after visiting with several of his constituents, along with himself, recommended that Mrs. Walker complete his unfinished portion of his term. Anyone in opposition of this is displaying a disregard to the will of the voters in District Twelve.”

After the vote, Juror Walter Pullen suggested that as Mrs. Walker is of Asian descent, it was a plus for diversity.

Said Pullen, “It’s a great opportunity to add another woman and another minority, and a minority group that hasn’t been covered. So I think this is a great day for all of us.”

Pullen is not what everyone who voted for him thought he was. He is turning very liberal.

So what are you going to do? Perhaps find another candidate for this fall’s election?
The American system works best when most people participate.

  4. Bob Sherunkel Says:

Old Mr. Pullen is far, far, far from anything liberal.

  5. Let's stand for honesty & truth Says:

Is it ethical for our Mayor to be campaigning for his wife? Just a question…..

So were the other minorities running? Or do you have to be a woman and another minority?

In my opinion, I believe the question is, should a newly elected official be able to have his spouse appointed to fill out his prior elected roll that they were unable to fulfill?

    • A half plan for a okay future Says:

Exactly. What happens if a better more powerful elected position becomes available!? Will Walker leave his new position once again for a better one? Can we trust him to fulfill this obligation we have elected him to serve?

Pols short for poly-ticksions. Like in elected officials.
