To be considered are two resolutions that would give tax breaks to local companies. Flakeboard America is planning an $11 million expansion at their Simsboro location, and Gunsmoke Energy Services is planning a $1/2 million project in Ruston.

Also, the jury will announce adoption of 2014 millage rates for Lincoln Parish property, and will consider a resolution calling for a Saturday, December 8 election. That vote will determine whether disabled veterans will be authorized additional homestead exemption.

I have two questions. Why not have the December 8th election on an already scheduled voting date to avoid the costs of a special election? When will our local elected officials stop giving financial breaks to out of state corporations?

That is the next general election.

Agree that tax rebates have little to no effect on “economic development”. In this case, in a $12 million project, the sales tax involved is 3/4 per cent, about $90000. Big money to the average person, but not material to an industrial project. The project will probably pay more freight than this. The projects absolutely do not depend on this amount of money to happen or not.
