I get a deep ole belly chuckle when I see that Jonesboro has a mayor pro TEMP…..bless their heart….it is MAYOR PRO TEM

    Mayor pro tem

A common use of pro tempore in the United States is in municipalities such as cities and towns with regard to the position of the mayor. Some cities do not have a position of vice mayor, but rather appoint a person from the city council to act as mayor pro tem in the absence of the actual mayor.

After the chuckle, I hang my head and cry….ignorance is everywhere!

Pay raise… What a laugh! I guess they really think they need one.

Let’s hear what the public thinks about salaries for the mayor and council members. They are the ones that will be footing the bill.

  4. Anonymous Says:

A Pay Raise may be in order…some of them are going to have to figure out how to think on their own and this is going to use up extra time….gonna have to read some documents and try to understand what is going on….they will be working more so more pay may be in order

  5. Oldman Says:

There has been no change, same thing just different people. The people in charge think of themselves before they think of the town.Oh well I thought things would be better, but oh well.

    • observer Says:

Make no mistake, the people who think they are still in charge are learning otherwise. I don’t think any council raise will be allowed this term. Things are getting better. 25% cut in wasted labor. Services being restored. We still have people using the council meetings a political platform which makes for a long drawn out meeting. No wonder nobody like to come to the meetings.

  6. Freddie Boy Says:

How about paying $25/meeting? That is fair to all. the taxpayers and the members. I agree with Anonymous….if it is really about serving….do if for free and that is really “serving.”

More…any government body that can vote themselves a raise is not good for the tax payers.

    • Oldman Says:

Freddie boy that’s one thing I can agree with you on.There are very few public servants willing to come forward and serve.I guess some people have jobs and family keeping them from coming forward and the rest are too sorry.Boy for the old days when honest people would do without just to hold public office and help the people and community.

What was the outcome of the pay raise at the meeting last night? I was not able to be there. Did they do anything or just discuss it?

  8. Anonymous Says:

    Who is the mayor?

Is there still a Mayor Pro TEMP ?????????????

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Are you serious? Did you not read the blog from Webster Smith? It is Mayor Pro Tem……not Temp. Or, you just being funny?

    • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

Les Lie is still the mayor although he is temporarily indisposed. He is not being paid for his “non-service” but until the next election his is still the mayor. A mayor pro tem serves as the mayor of Jonesboro in the absence of Les Lie.

      • Oldman Says:

Mr.Fowler glad to hear from you, thought you had gone on to the happy hunting ground. Don’t leave us as we need your input here in Jonesboro.

        • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

Only commenting when I feel that it is essential to education some one who doesn’t understand something, such as Les Lie is still the mayor although he receives no pay and doesn’t reside in the town any more. While the “happy hunting ground” is closer than before, the Man Upstairs hasn’t issued me a hunting license yet.

How did it get so the council members coujld vote themselves a raise? Shouldn’.t that be a decision for the taxpayers to make?

  10. Anonymous Says:

Well, what happened at the Tuesday Town Council meeting about the raise?

  11. Anonymous Says:

Farmerville is having the same problem. Heard the council members there had voted themselves $1,000 an hour. Hope that doesn’t give this bunch ideas. Maybe Folden will veto it if it gets out of hand again.

  12. Anonymous Says:

Pay raise , lol are you kidding , these clowns are just as much to blame for the town being in the shape it’s in as the ole sorry ass mayor was , cut their pay if anything .
