Monroe Mayor Mayo Spotted at Illegal Bar

The City of Monroe’s controversial Mayor Jamie Mayo was spotted at an area illegal bar several days ago, at the same time a fund raiser was being held for potential Shreveport mayoral candidate Sam Jenkins, sources have told Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO)

The sources saw Mayo in the Washington Street Jazz Club, 800 B3 Washington Street, and then leave the premises on the night of August 1.

The Ouachita Citizen’s Johnny Gunter reported on the establishment in the 8/8/13 issue of that newspaper.

Gunter wrote that the club does not at present have a valid license to do business and is currently under investigation by the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control.

The club is also at the heart of a zoning controversy between the City of Monroe’s Board of Adjustments and Roosevelt Wright. The board last month denied Wright zoning to open the Excellence Acadamy, a charter school located across the street from the club.

Wright has filed suit to contest the ruling.

The owner of the building wherein the bar is located, Oliver Jones, was recently the subject of additional controversy.

The Louisiana Department of Treasury cited Southside Economic Development District for non-compliance of accountability and transparency. Jones is president of that organization.

Over the past several days, Mayo’s name has been prominently mentioned as a possible candidate in Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District. An October 16 election is scheduled to replace retiring incumbent Rodney Alexander (R-Ruston).

Also Kenny Wilson (city councilman) was at the party. How can you expect anyone to respect law and the rules when the elected city leaders consider themselves above the law.

You know if the Mayor (Mayo) would ever get pulled over and given a sobriety test he would fail. He can put away some crown more like an alcoholic….

Mayo wants to pass, he says tax renewals, not new taxes, Tuesday at the City Council meeting. They expire if not voted for. This is a new tax at the same price as the old tax. No new Taxes for Mayo and his drinking buddies. He gets drunk on tax and bond issues that we pay for.
