Early voting on two 5-mil property taxes for the Town of Jonesboro is set to end tomorrow (Saturday, 12/1) at 6:00 PM. Only registered voters who live in the town can vote at the Registrar of Voters Office, Room 102 of the Jackson Parish Court House.
The two taxes are for fire and streets, and are expiring at the end of this year. The vote is on whether or not to re-impose them.

I hear that the fire department is going to run an add in the paper in support of the tax. Don’t be fooled by the add. They can write anything to try and make it sound good but we all know how things have been and will be until the mayor and council can be voted out. I heard that the fire chief told the three full time employees that if the tax passed he would see that they got a raise ($15.00). So I don’t think the tax needs to pass just to give someone a raise. And I’m sure he thinks he will get a new pick-up out of the deal. As far as the street tax $90,000 a year won’t even start fixing the problems we have. I would rather pay higher insurance then give the town more money at least I would know where my money was going. Vote NO on all taxes. Local, state and federal.

The Emp is bring in his squatters to rental property to vote TAXES on people that actually own property in Jonesboro. GET OUT AND VOTE NO PROPERTY OWNERS

I don’t think you should be able to vote a tax unless you are a property owner. It’s unfair to vote a tax somebody else has to pay.But that is government today for you.

I ask someone that has worked elections and they said anyone with a legal residence in Jonesboro could vote.

Read My Lips…. you had to ask someone, if any resident of the town could vote??

I’m sorry I am not as smart as you are
12/03/2012 at 9:02 am |
Obviously not, if you thought you had to be a property owner to vote. It seems as if you are not smarter than a 5th grader. …. OK,, just being a little snarky. Picking on you a little, joking around, It is a recent law allowing non property owners to vote. Passed in 1850. Now in fairness, I think only property owners SHOULD be allowed to vote on property tax issues.

read your lips……would if you could distinguish between that and your smart ……..

If the street tax pasts, the town can pay wages to people who work in the street dept. The street dept has trucks, tractors, weed eaters and other equipment to keep up.They can pick up paper, mow grass and other things. All of this takes money away from the streets maint and repair. More money is spent on wages than on other things.Vote no.

I do believe all of the ideas you have introduced on your post.
They are very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are too
short for novices. Could you please prolong them a bit from
next time? Thanks for the post.
