Guice Recommended to be 14th Tech Prez

Leslie K. Guice, the 57 year-old Executive Vice-President and Vice-President of Research and Development at Louisiana Tech University (LTU), was this morning recommended to become that institution’s fourteenth president.

The unanimous recommendation was made by a search committee of the University of Louisiana System (ULS), the agency that oversees Tech, along with several other of the state’s universities. The committee met at Tech’s Ruston, LA campus.

The system’s Board of Supervisors will have to approve the committee’s recommendation at a December meeting in Baton Rouge. That seems a likely outcome, as several of the search committee members are also board members.

Search Committee Chair Wayne Parker said that the committee “got great input from faculty, staff and students,” and that helped them to make their decision. “We feel that Dr. Guice is the person,” to lead the university to further accomplishments.

Asked whether the full board would ratify the search committee’s recommendation, Parker said he couldn’t speak for all the members, but noted, “Dr. Guice is obviously a very strong candidate, and I think our board members will see that.”

This morning’s action caps two days of public interviews and meetings with the two finalists for the school’s top job.

The other finalist for the job was Duane Hrncir, Acting President of South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (Mines).

Current Tech President Dan Reneau is set to retire June 30, 2013.
