Stewart Regime Marked by Controversy

The four-year old regime of Second Judicial (Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson parishes) District Attorney Jonathan Stewart has from the beginning been marked by one controversy after another.

The latest is the alleged criminal activity in the Gibsland, LA mayor’s office.

Another Out-of-Control Mayor (Giblsand) for Jonathan Stewart to Deal With?

Among the findings:

Bank accounts not reconciled timely.
No listing of accounts receivable or payable.
No utility entries to accounts receivable during the year.
Payroll related liabilities not paid timely.
No General Fund budget for the year ended June 30,2011.
Late submission of audit report.
Questionnaires not signed and provided to the auditor.

See here the document.

Reportedly, Bienville Parish Sheriff John Ballance is getting the same runaround that Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown has dealt with over the past two years concerning the Town of Jonesboro’s investigation.

Earlier this year, Stewart threatened the Jackson Parish Police Jury (JPPJ) with a lawsuit if it didn’t promptly appropriate $50 thousand to help fund his office.

One of Stewart’s assistants was last year investigated by the Louisiana State Police for allegations of sexual misconduct. The ADA’s case was brought before a grand jury, but he was not indicted. A civil lawsuit was later filed against the former assistant.

Also, a series of Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO) reports late last year on drug asset forfeiture revealed that Stewart’s office was not properly account for the forfeited money he responsible for handling.

All this is in addition to Stewart’s refusal to pursue prosecution of his close political ally, Jonesboro’s controversial mayor Leslie Thompson.

Not looking good for re-election for him or the mayors.

    • The Jet Says:

      498 votes. 2.48%.

That was Mr. Stewart’s margin of victory over Darrell R. Avery on 11/4/2008.

Qualifying takes place August 15-17. Who will run against him? Up for Round 2, Mr. Avery? Anyone else? Look at the record. This is a vulnerable incumbent.

Last day to register to vote is October 9.

Remember, 500 more votes from Jackson Parish last time would’ve put Mr. Avery in office. Only 7141 Jackson Parish residents voted for DA, but 7736 voted in the Presidential election ON THE SAME BALLOT!

Read the whole ballot, do your civic duty, and cast a vote in every election folks. Elections matter. Elections have consequences. Not just the Presidential one.

Agree with all you say. It’s the ass-sitters that helped put the turds in office. Get off your ass and vote Jonesboro or suffer the consequences (you have already had a good dose of what to expect in the future if the DA and CTIC are reelected.) Is that what you want. Just sitting there will get you that and worse. Your choice, Jonesboro.

  2. Anonymous Says:

No one thought CTIC would get reelected after his last term either, but he did! Unless people get out and vote they both will be in office until they retire!

    • hmmm Says:

There was not a viable alternative so who would get excited enough to get up and vote.

      • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

Road kill would be a vaiable alternative to Thompson.

        • Anonymous Says:

Exactly right! Last election wasn’t much to choose from, but I can honestly say I did not vote for Thompson and won’t next time around or for Stewart either!

  3. Anonymous Says:

So, the mayor of Gibsland is being set up to look bad as well…..is he playing the race card?

  4. Donald Marion Fowler Says:

Is it just my imagination or is the CTIC looking to Gibsland for guidance? Gibsland’s case is almost a mirrow of Jonesboro’s ills. The DA (dumb ass) demanded $50,000 or else. Is he demanding other things under the table? Keep me posted, folks. North Louisiana is trying to join the big boys club ofg evil and corruption.

    • Anonymous Says:

I don’t think we are trying to join……..We are already there!!

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Donald: I think the mayor believes he has the knowledge to help the good folk of Gibsland. Or, any one entity that is having difficulty in their respective places of authority. He may even take on the Monroe City School System. Or, maybe Washington, D.C. Heaven knows, we have a $15 trillion mess on our hands.

      • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

sunrisesunset, were you referring to good ol’ Les when you were talking about the mayor believes he has the knowledge to help the good folks . . . .? If so, here is my humble opinion: piss in a boot will evaporate before good ol’ Les can figure out how to empty the boot! Let’s be the last ones that have to suffer his incompetence.

        • sunrisesunset Says:

Donald: Of course, we all know ol’ Les doesn’t have the smarts to train other entities since he could not do squat for the TJ.

I am strictly being sarcastic in my statement. That’s all. But, in his widdie biddie mind, he probably thinks he could HELP any entity since he has worked miracles for the TJ, and it is in such a wonderful state………being sarcastic again, sorry!

The bad thing is we have him till 1/11/15, 2 1/2 more years. How much more damage can he do till then? Stewart is the one we need to recall. There are enough people in the parishes of Claiborne, Bienville and Jackson to do this!!! BTW there are a couple of qualified people with the money to run that are waiting for this to happen. When it comes down to it I don’t believe that Stewart will run for re-election, I don’t think he has the money and after he sees who is running for the office, he will know that he can’t beat them. Man I can’t wait for this election.

  6. Anonymous Says:

I looked on JP Clerks website and can’t find any upcoming elections. When is Stewarts term up? If he won’t do anything maybe the next one in office will.

    • The Jet Says:

This fall. Good rule of thumb to remember is, in Louisiana, judge/DA elections are the same as the Presidential elections.

      • Down Town In Jonesboro Says:

That rule of thumb applies to Stewart – he has his thumb up his ass.

      • anonymous Says:

I thought DA’s serve a 6 yr term and presidents serve 4 yrs. So how can the elections be at the same time?

        • Donald Marion Fowler Says:

It will occur every 12 years when DA’s and Presidents are elected in the same year, it in fact the DA serves a 6 year term.

        • The Jet Says:

My apologies, I had thought DAs were elected to four year terms. It is six. My bad.

Well, there is always recall! Much higher bar though.

Also, Thompson and Stewart will be up on the same ballot come fall 2014. Interesting.

    • Anonymous Says:

look at the sec of states site, his term is up 1/11/15 so that means we have 2 1/2 more years of this crap

  7. anonymous Says:

A DA with integrity would recuse himself from the jonesboro situation since he was so dependent on leslie’s “political consulting” and getting him that special bloc of votes. So does that make a statement as to what type of person holding office? He appears to be unconcerned so maybe he only wanted 6 yrs as DA. Watch the Gibsland situation closely, if he drags his feet on them it would indicate a procrastinator who won’t do his job. If action is taken for Gibs and not Jonesboro, then the rumors of a special connection to thompson would seem correct.

    • Anonymous Says:

that is all he wants, his retirement. mark my words stewart will not run for re-election but will work a deal with whoever runs to be asset. da just to get his full retirement. btw this will happen!

    • What a joke Says:

They aren’t rumors. Stewart IS connected to Thompson. Look at his campaign finance reports. There in black and white is $6,000 Jonathan paid Leslie for his support. He paid Leslie more than he paid anyone else, except his professional campaign consultant.

      • Anonymous Says:

Wonder if Stewart and Fannin gave Leslie 1099 to report this income?

It would be SO NICE if the IRS looked into this income.

I can only imagine that Les did not know it was income and had to be reported.

        • No More Spin Says:

No, it will be blamed on some white woman somewhere…….hasn’t everything else?
