Runoff in LPPJ District Six, House District 12

In Lincoln Parish races, runoffs in a couple of elections will be settled on Saturday, November 19 – one for District 6 of the Lincoln Parish Police Jury (LPPJ), and the other for Louisiana House of Representatives District 12.

LPPJ District 6 Incumbent Roy Glover will face challenger Walter Pullen.

Glover tallied 316 votes (36%), while Pullen received 301 votes (34%). Third-place finisher Jim Sheppard got 262 votes (30%).

See here the vote tabulations.

Pullen had made last year’s controversial jury vote to award a trash hauling contract to the high bidder a major theme of his campaign.

In the District 12 open seat, Ronny Walker defeated former juror Jack Beard. Incumbent Mickey Mays did not run for re-election.

Five other incumbents won re-election: Theresa Wyatt (District One), Hazel Hunter (District Two), Bobby Bennett (District Three), David Hammonds (District Five), and Jody Backus (District Seven).

Louisiana House District Twelve

There will be a runoff also in Louisiana House District 12 between Jason Bullock and Rob Shadoin.

Incumbent Hollis Downs did not run for re-election.

Bullock garnered 5410 votes (45%), while Shadoin got 4646 votes (39%). Third place went to Jake Halley with 1898 votes (16%).

Surprisingly, Bullock got over half his votes – 3066 – in Union parish, the home of Halley. Both Bullock and Shadoin live in Ruston, which is in Lincoln parish. The registered voters in House District Twelve are split near equally between the two parishes.

Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO) had covered a debate between the three candidates last month sponsored by the North Central Louisiana Tea Party.

Lincoln Parish Tax Assessor

Of note was the race for Lincoln Parish Tax Assessor. While long-time Deputy Assessor Sheila Bordlon did win with 55% of the votes (4667), challenger Becky Webb polled a surprising 45% of the vote (3867).
