OPPJ Upset! – Robinson Defeats Jackson in Dist A

Political newcomer Scotty Robinson has upset Ouachita Parish Police Jury (OPPJ) District A incumbent Charles Jackson by a vote of 4212 (55%) to 3388 (45%).

See here the vote tabulations.

Jackson was perceived to have been a major supporter of a 23% tax hike for the Ouachita Correctional Center (OCC) that was defeated last April by a 3 to 1 margin.

Jackson was also a major booster of the controversial V-Vehicle/Next Autoworks deal, that has been covered extensively by Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO).

Two years ago, the jury levied a property tax millage from which the proceeds were to be given to the controversial car company for “economic development.” The money has yet to be returned to the taxpayers as had been promised.

Robinson had said the tax hike issue was what convinced him to run for office.

All the other five incumbent jurors were either re-elected or were unopposed.
