The Christmas Lights for the annual “Christmas Wonderland in the Pines” will be put up this year, according to Jackson Parish Chamber of Commerce director Wilda Smith. See here the email sent out today.

Subject: THE LIGHTS WILL BURN IN JONESBOROJim Beal, Dusty Hampton and I met yesterday with Mayor Thompson and members of his staff to discuss rumors of not having Christmas lights in Jonesboro for the 2011 Christmas festival.
Mayor Thompson stated there will be Christmas lights on our parade route, bushes and trees on Jimmie Davis Blvd. Also, the Tony Rome park will be decorated as our Christmas park where we will have Santa in his house on week-ends.
There is money needed to decorate some of the buildings. However, for their information, I shared that the Chamber spent $14,000.00 last year and can not spend more or even that much this year. The Chamber can not share in the expense of putting up the lights.
If you are a business and would like for the town to decorate for you, then you need to contact the Mayor’s office and make arrangements.
Also, for your information our courthouse is not the responsibility of the town of Jonesboro to decorate. The Police Jury has stated that it is a wiring problem, not the new roof that is keeping it from having lights.
Allow me to encourage you to join in our parade and festival. Forms for Grand Marshal, booth and parade can be picked up in the Chamber office.
Please share this e-mail with your friends and family!

Leslie or Rev Dill for grandmarshall….or how about Debra Jackson?
09/28/2011 at 7:56 pm |
Say it isn’t so, Ricky!

Thank goodness for Wilda Smith and Chamber of Commerce members who continue work to keep Jackson Parish a place with good wholesome activities that families and visitors can enjoy at Christmas. The Town of Jonesboro should be falling over trying to assist since the business in town, the few that are left, do stand to benefit from the visitors who come to see the lights of Jonesboro. This leads to taxes being paid which provide funds for the town.

The so-called “rumors” were more than just that. To quote from Leslie Thompson’s racial attack on Judge Teat on The Fount earlier this month, “You won’t have no Christmas lights this year. You can’t keep having your cake and eat it too.” On the other hand, maybe that double negative “won’t have no” was his way of saying that we would have them.
09/28/2011 at 9:16 pm |
Guess it’s pretty hard for even Thompson’s supporters to follow him when he keeps changing his tune every few days.
09/28/2011 at 9:24 pm |
You are joking, right? His followers soak up every word he spits out…and have no need to try and remember his tunes.
He tells them and they believe…..
09/28/2011 at 9:19 pm |
If you remember, he did the same thing last Christmas.
09/28/2011 at 9:44 pm |
I say, I say, That’s a joke, I say, that’s a joke, son
Ain’t nothin’ wrong with ‘im, Foggy, ‘cept that he takes after you
Lump-teen-dozen and a-doo-dah day.
DOO-Dah! DOO-Dah!
09/29/2011 at 12:28 am |
Be interesting to know what promises they made to him. Maybe he will be the grand marshall in the parade. After seeing The Fount video, I just can’t believe he is doing it for any other reason than they made a deal.
09/29/2011 at 5:23 am |

It is time for the RECALL. THOMPSON AND STEWART-RECALL ACTION IMMEDIATELY. GET YOUR WALKING SHOES ON AND GET READY. IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND STEP UP TO THE LINE OR SIT HERE AND WHINE AND CRY ABOUT HOW UNFAIR AND UNFORTUNATE THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A MAYOR AND DISTRICT ATTORNEY IS AND CONTINUES TO BE. SIGN UP OR SHUT UP! STAND UP OR CRAWL UP THERE TO CITY HALL AND THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE AND KEEP ON SUCKING UP TO THE SCUM. YOU DECIDE! ALSO, HUGE RALLY OF PEOPLE GOING TO BATON ROUGE TO DEMONSTRATE, LINE THE CORRIDOR OF THE CAPITOL AND FRONT STEPS OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE-TWO BUSES ALREADY CHARTERED. THIS IS THE FIRST AND LAST WARNING. IF THAT DOG CAN GET ON YOU TUBE AND THREATEN AND MAKE THE WIMPS WHIMPER AND CRAWL UP TO THE CITY HALL AND BEG FOR LIGHTS, THE LAW ABIDING PEOPLE WITH GUTS CAN STAND UP TOO AND DEMAND THE PEOPLE WITH THE AUTHORITY TO DO SOMETHING GET UP OFF THEIR SORRY VOTE BOUGHT CHAIR AND DO THEIR JOB.
09/29/2011 at 7:42 am |
Be certain to have James Roy Fannin be available for a photo opportunity…maybe you can have your photo made with Bobby as well.
Good luck with the trip to BR….you will have a fun travel adventure but do not expect anything else.
I live in BR….watch the rallies and it never works.
Your recall petition might IF you work it hard enough to get every one to sign it.
09/29/2011 at 9:45 am |
well, we are not defeated, not by any means, shape form or fashion. We will be victorious, contacts in Bienville Parish, Claiborne have already started to mobilize for the recall on Stewart, in two days the drive in Jackson Parish will start so doom speaker-keep your negativity to your self……we will not be denied!!!!!!
09/29/2011 at 11:42 am |
The Leslie followers is not going to allow this to happen…even if you get enough signatures, they are going to play the race card and get it thrown out.
Just saying….you ain’t seen nothing yet.
09/29/2011 at 10:31 pm |
YOU AINT SEEN NOTHIN YET EITHER! Get ready because when the Petitions come by , you will be shocked! Remember, YOU AINT SEEN NOTHIN YET!!!
09/29/2011 at 8:53 am |
Let us know where to sign PLEASE!!!!!
09/29/2011 at 11:10 am |
Tell everyone you know to join in these recalls. What took us so long to get this started? It seems the only way to end the circus in Jackson Parish!
09/29/2011 at 8:34 am |
These distractions are so nice.
Folks will forget quickly about the list of checks to account for the missing money.
Folks will forget about the high priced CFO needed to straighten out the MESS at the TOJ office
Folks will forget about the many law suits.
Folks will forget about Leslie’s racist rants and claims on You Tube.
Folks will forget that there are no job descriptions for his hires.
Folks will forget that he has no decals on his town provided car.
Folks will forget about his mule.
Folks will forget about all Leslie’s lies to cover up his wrongs.
Once the water is fixed, we can move on to the carnival and circus, the Christmas lights and parade and then a new year with the same old stuff.

Can the TOJ get a new photo up this year? I do believe a photo of Leslie and the Rev Dill is a good idea.
The First Lady, Mrs. Mayor Thompson, deserves her photo up as well.
And let’s not forget the First Black Council ever…..a group shot of the council would be good.
Perhaps, All of the above can record a Holiday Message with Rev Dill’s help….TOJ can purchase a HUGH video screen and it can run non stop.
Bring the cheer to the streets! It is okay to change the look of the Christmas decoration. Carry the new decorating theme from the town hall to the outside for all to enjoy!
10/01/2011 at 8:44 pm |
Say it isn’t so, Lucy! The town cannot stand someone grandstanding in the Christmas decorations again. What a joke!

The recall election for Forest Hill Mayor Marcia Young scheduled for May 1 has been called off.
The state 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal reversed a March 3 state court ruling, which had declared the recall petition valid.
Young appealed the ruling arguing the petition was invalid because it contained names of people who do not live in the village of Forest Hill.
The appellate court says the recall petition is invalid because the chairman of the recall committee failed to file a three-day notice of intent to file as required by state law.
The court says seven people who signed the recall petition live outside of the village.
KEEP IN MIND, RECALLS CAN ALSO BE APPEALED….SPEAKING OF APPEAL, HOW IS LESLIE’S APPEAL COMING ALONG?
09/29/2011 at 10:43 pm |
Recalls can be appealed and so can decisions that are relative to appeals. Keep on with the doom speaking, but we are going to be victorious and WE WILL NOT BE DENIED! If people would spend as half much time as looking for solutions instead of ways to tear down what people are trying to do, namely get the greed and corruption out of Jackson Parish it would probably be a lot nicer place to be. 22 hours from now the long awaited Petitions will begin…………may their ink run freely like the Colorado River and may their journey be calm and peaceful as they walk the paths of truth with a solution to this mess that Political leeches have created.
09/29/2011 at 12:17 pm |
Read about Eddie Price, former mayor of Mandeville….Think he and Leslie handle the mayor job about the same.
Price is in prison now….he had “ghost plates” on his government car….the vehicle he crashed….
09/29/2011 at 12:36 pm |
OoooMy!! Poor Eddie Price, he’s white, he couldn’t sling the race card for distraction.
09/29/2011 at 12:33 pm |
I think there is a bigger than just the local folks situation regarding the Mayor Thompson…..not sure what it is but for him to behave as he does and NEVER have a problem make me think there is “someone, somewhere, doing something” for this stinking stuff to keep going on in Jonesboro!
09/29/2011 at 5:35 pm |
Calm dowm. Be civil. Two people have to go. The two people who put us on newscasts and youtube. Quit fighting. And just think about your actions. Who started this? These two. Must go.
09/29/2011 at 10:38 pm |
No one here fighting, no one here not being Civil.Just stating the facts and if that bothers you, well you can just keep on hiding and playing the game at Mcdonalds every morning, which by the way, they laugh at you when you walk out the door, so yet again, you be civil and stop trying to tell every one else how to conduct themselves. One would think by now you would have realized that people do not need you to think for them nor do they need your direction in their life. Handle your own business and let the people that are willing to do something get on with the Petitions.
09/29/2011 at 10:40 pm |
Gates and Thompson started this.
Go to http://www.myarklamiss.com and check it out.
Just go up to the upper right corner, where their search engine is located. Just key in Jackson Parish Mayor or Jackson Parish Library and you can watch all of those humiliating newscasts. Watch them over, over, and over again to appreciate the full impact that these two people have had upon our community.
09/29/2011 at 10:46 pm |
you keep forgetting to thank the Jackson Parish Police Jury, especially the one that got the ball rolling with the call to the media. Too bad he can’t be replaced with the ones that are about to be voted out of office.
09/29/2011 at 11:07 pm |
Yes, it was a sad day to hear this.
09/30/2011 at 9:18 am |
Which Police Jury got the ball rolling?
Also, who comes to McDonalds and shares thoughts then gets laughed at once out the door? Too bad those laughing can not stand up to this person’s face and has to be a back stabber…
Folks need something to do in Jonesboro….something good for everyone.
Start a Community Garden in the walking area there by McDonalds. Can do raised container beds.
Young children think food comes from the grocery store. Let all generations and races work together and grow a garden to share among those who work in it.
The older wiser ones can help the younger ones learn about growing food.
A community garden can provided many, many benefits to all.
Want to get it going? LSU Ag center has good info….ask the county agent to start working on this idea.
09/30/2011 at 7:24 am |
Mayor Leslie Thompson said, “If they don’t pass a budget I won’t be able to turn the lights on.
A quote from the arklamiss website…..last year
09/30/2011 at 8:26 am |
Wonder what was given to Leslie to “allow” the lights for 2011.
He wanted the budget passed in 2010 for the lights to be on.
Maybe he gets to pick the grand marshal of the parade.
Hey, I heard his wife’s new job is provided from ….drum roll please…..YES, you guessed it ….Mr. “Doc” Hebert Simmons.
How does this sound “I will give you wife a paycheck. You make certain I get the bid on the land you told me I could have…and we do not have random drug testing”?

The county agent can also teach some food canning ideas.
While folks work the garden, some can walk the track…can catch rain water and do drip irrigation to water the garden….lots of wonderful ideas.
Any one interested? Can we get the Police Jury involved? The Rev Dill promotes healthy eating on his sit. Jackson Parish Library can become involved….
Come together …right now….over a garden of good.
09/30/2011 at 2:28 pm |
The problems in Jonesboro cannot be cured by gardening. Get over that!
10/02/2011 at 9:04 am |
Would a garden hurt anything?
09/30/2011 at 3:20 pm |
I think the garden idea is a great one…let’s get it going
09/30/2011 at 2:30 pm |
Be very careful that everything is done just right so that the recall petitions are correct and will stand up in court, if need be. Everyone get ready to sign on to improving Jonesboro with the recall.
09/30/2011 at 2:56 pm |
The recall petitions that have been mentioned on this website appear to have Thompson and Stewart on the same petition. It would seem better to have them on separate ones, because one involves a town official and the other a tri-parish one. Some may want to sign one but not the other, particularly those from towns other than Jonesboro.
09/30/2011 at 5:18 pm |
you should read the post again, no where did it indicate they would both be on the same petition.
