JONESBORO, La., (KNOE 8 News)
The Jonesboro Water System is having problems with its system after a construction crew cut a 12″ water main. As a result, the system may experience losses in water pressure.
Because of this, the water is of questionable microbiological quality and users are advised to boil all water intended for consumption, including drinking, making ice, food preparation, rinsing of foods or brushing teeth.
Water must be boiled for one full minute after a rolling boil has been established.
This boil advisory will stay in effect until rescinded by the Jonesboro Water System.

well i really like the way they let the public know late in the afternoon this town really sucks i called public works this morning when i lost water pressure and asked if a line had broken linda said yes a crew had cut into a 12″ main up by sonic but didnt say anything about a boil order. ive been making my baby,s bottles all afternoon with this water.thanks alot town of jonesboro your emergency plan truly sucks when it comes to notifying the public you do know alot of us dont watch the local news or are yall that dumb!!! just like the mayor cause it sure seems that way

The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office has an emergency notification system that will call the phone number you provide or send a text to notify you of local emergency situations. You can access this on line or by phone call and get added to the list of folks who want to be notified when there are serious situations. It’s all free. Obviously no one chose to let them know and send out the alert to the citizens. Why in the world the town did not use this system that is already in place, who knows?

Wait I have another thought, Rev Dill did not know about the Code Red system.
Since Rev Dill did not know, he could not tell Leslie to ask Andy Brown to put out alert.
Sure hope the mayor has not spent on the contingency funds in the water/sewer account…sounds like this could be a case to spend some of this money.
You will remember the water/sewer contingency funds were used to pay Alma Brashear for trail transcripts……cause the transcripts were needed to submit the appeal case. By the way, how is this coming along?

We need to know at what time today the water became contaminated. This is a real eye opener, if yours were not already open, as to the concern the mayor’s office shows for the citizens of the town. What if this were something more serious than contaminated water? What would they do?
KNOE Channel 8 was the only news agency notified because they have done no news on the mess in Jonesboro. Channel 10 has investigated the illegal operations of the mayor’s office and reported it to the public. Do we need to wonder why Channel 10 was not also notified?

Dish Network will provide both Channel 8 and Channel 10 news. Direct TV cannot provide both at this time unless something has changed in the past week. PLEASE, in the next emergency, notify both news agencies. Those who could not get Channel 8 could still be in the dark about this situation. Forget the politics and think of the people.

First of all, this is a boil advisory not an order. The advisory was issued because of the drop in water pressure not because of contaminates in the line. This has become the new procedure for water systems for pressure drop.

I still have seen no answer to the question of why the Sheriff’s office was not notified, so this information could be put on Code Red. Whether this is ever answered or not, it is important that the next time anything happens that the public should be urgently notified of, the Sheriff’s office is advised as soon as possible. This transcends any personal feelings that the mayor or anybody else in town government has toward any of these persons or groups.

I realize that Code Red is for the entire parish, and this concerned mainly the citizens of the Town of Jonesboro, but a Code Red message could be sent to all parish subscribers saying that a boil advisory had been issued for Jonesboro, or had been lifted. I am sure those in other parish towns would not mind getting this information, as they may have friends or relatives in Jonesboro who did not receive it, either because they are not on Code Red or were away from a phone.

I did an unofficial survey of several dozen people to see how many of them received the boil advisory from KNOE-TV. Only three of them did. The rest received it several hours or even the next day, by someone who had seen it on TV calling them, seeing it on the LPNO website, or a variety of other means. Almost all of them had Code Red, and would have received notice much sooner than they did had it been placed on it. I can think of no reason why it should not be done the next time. I suppose it is possible the Town officials just did not think of it this time. How about you? Would you have received it sooner that way?

Word of mouth seems to be the way that most people I know were notified about the situation. Only one friend saw it on Channel 8 news. TOWN OF JONESBORO LEARN TO USE CODE RED! Its purpose is to advise people of any emergency, weather or danger. Surely you people can at least notify someone else to alert the public.

Anonymous of 9-28 @ 8:08 a.m. gives some of the reasons for the boil advisory being issued: advisory, not an order; because of drop in water pressure, not possible conamination; and it is the “new procedure.” All of this is the type of double-talk we have been getting from Town Hall for the past five years. None of this matters. The bottom line is to use all types of vehicles to let the most persons know of an impending danger, and to take precautions to prevent it: Code Red, TV stations, Lincoln Parish Online, or even the Fount if they think enough people watch it to make it worthwhile.

The one positive I can see is that the state Dept. of Health will have to certify that the water is safe before the advisory is lifted. Would not want to trust that to the Town of Jonesboro. This info was on the KNOE TV website.

Wow! Alot of this seems very childish! These replies remind me of the things some of the inmates that we house at our facility would say. I know there has been alot going on about the mayor but, are you really concerned about the safety with the water or just trying to find another way to bash the mayor? I agree I got the warning the next day after I had haved low water pressure almost all evening from the previous day. Stop talking about and do something about it.

Sometimes, when things are bad (and they are bad at Jonesboro), humor (childish) helps. It is certainly a better outlet than becoming angry.
The form of venting on this blog may help some….even if you deem it childish.

We finaly got the word on LPNO that it has been lifted. Don’t know how much longer it will take the Town of Jonesboro to notify people. Maybe it will be on the 5 p.m. KNOE-TV news like the boil advisory was. OK, I am doing something about it, how about you?

We resent the inference that “help me help me” made in comparing the possible hazards of water contamination to hundreds or even thousands of people to a “cat in a tree” or “granny losing her teeth.” Yes, this was an advisory to give people a chance to do something to prevent possible damage. That is exactly what a weather alert is, even though only a small percentage of them actually cause damage. Some of the town administration’s supporters attempt to minimize any criticism of their actions or inaction, but we do not plan to “stop complaining” or making efforts to correct the situation.

Anyone should be allowed to ask whatever question they may have for the mayor and council without being asked to leave or sit down. It’s called “freedom of speech”. Just because THEY do not like a certain question being asked does not give them a reason for shutting the questioner up. I hope Mr. Allen is still going to the council meetings and asking whatever question he feels he needs answered.
I wish you all the best of luck with the petitions on Thompson and his side-kick, DA Stewart. Get the ball rolling for us, please!
