Former? Jonesboro Fire Chief Sues Town

David Roberts, the former (or not) Fire Chief for the Town of Jonesboro has sued the town, claiming he was never properly terminated from that position and should be awarded back pay and benefits from 1/11/2011 to the present.

See here the document.

The suit was filed today in Second Judicial (Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson parishes) District Court.

Roberts attorney Bobby Culpepper cites in the petition LA RS 33:386 – Appointment of Municipal Officials, and Louisiana Attorney General Opinion 95-0218.

From the revised statutes:

D. The term of the clerk, tax collector, nonelected chief of police, street commissioner, municipal attorney, and court magistrate shall end at the time of the first regular meeting of the board of aldermen succeeding each regular municipal election.

Since the term of Fire Chief does not automatically end as do the other positions, then an affirmative action must be taken by the board of aldermen to terminate someone from that job, Culpepper claims.

According to the minutes, no such action was taken.

At the 1/11/2011 meeting, Mark Treadway was appointed the new Fire Chief.

Dear The Town Citizen, please answer the following questions:

I want to know with regards to the new council, who is the Deacon? (Deacon Stringfellow or Deacon Flowers) Who is the minister? And which one of Leslie’s hand picked is JUST in the ministry? Do you still believe this is an “awesome” leaders?

Note the date of the above post..Jan 12, 2011…proclaimed that this new respectable Council WILL NOT make the Town look BAD.

I am praying the mess in Jonesboro will end. Can I have an AMEN?

Former town administrative assistant Earlean Knox has been hired as a contract “consultant” to work on federal and state grants for projects, according to the town’s controversial mayor, Leslie Thompson.

Above copied from Walter Abbott article

Just wondering if there has been any Earlean Knox sighting lately?
She still consulting with the Town of Jonesboro?

I would like her job or the tax collecting lady’s…both pay really well!

Hey…The Rev Dill has a new post with the Honorable Mayor Leslie Thompson. Thompson is taped while on the phone with a radio station.

Speaking about his mistreatment by the Caucasian judge in Jonesboro ….all of Jonesboro’s problems is just because Leslie is black and was elected mayor.

If you would like to see the article, it is on The Fount….check on archives for August 2011 Dated August 25th. Wonder why the mayor is not on the phone at the Town Hall?

Well, well, well….the Rev Dill ….the mortgage banker, realtor, car washer, BBQ cooker, baker, reporter… Town of Jonesboro Mayor’s personal assistant.

What is your next career move? Rent a house in Jonesboro and become the next African American mayor? And then Leslie and his wife can be on your staff.

    • anon#1258 Says:

If the caucasian judge were so bad; wouldn’t the guy who was sexing up teenage girls have gotten way more punishment than he did as well as the 3rd offense dwi case? People forget. Or is it you are only racist when a specific person is involved.

      • anonymous Says:

Do you want the truth or some bs politically correct answer. The guy sexing up teenage girls got that sentence b/c of who his daddy is and those girls were black. If those girls had been white, he would be doing 10 to 20 years right now. Gotta love Jackson Parish, the land (and legal system) that time forgot.

The Mayor should know that the Town of Jonesboro has much patience, but it is beginning to wear thin.

“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.”

Leslie needs some community support….help him …there is injustice in Jonesboro ….send him money for his defense.

WOW….listen to him on the Fount’s website.

He is a JOKE! The Joker is loose in Jonesboro for sure.

  9. sunrisesunset Says:

If they (Thompson, Dill) are so wonderful and good at their jobs, let’s just ship them to D.C and let them help out our President. Maybe they have some good pointers for him and congress about how things should be operated. That would surely put us in the black wouldn’t it?

    • Anonymous Says:

Put who in the black? Town of Jonesboro or DC? Too bad TOJ can not print more money like DC can…..

  10. Anonymous Says:

Please listen to Leslie’s conversation on the Fount website….taped/posted by Rev David Dill…town employee

He says the court is a kangaroo court and that he (Leslie) is an expert in budgetary law.

Leslie’s daughter in Dallas ask him why he just does not quit and he said he has a calling to be a public servant. God has prepared him to do what he needs to do. And King (assuming MLK) died for this.

His budget is the first time EVER that the town of Jonesboro has EVER had a balanced budget.

Leslie also said the bottom line really is just about the color of his skin.

Excuse me please while I go VOMIT!

  11. Anonymous Says:

hey A B B O T T, does this mean mayor and council broke law again?

    • Anonymous Says:

      The Mayor and Council have N E V E R B R O K E N the law….what you talking about?

      • Anonymous Says:

        xCuse me – are you A B B O T T?
and looks like RS 33:386 may have been violated?

  12. Anonymous Says:

Does all this hate and discontent really serve any purpose?

    • Anonymous Says:

Were do you see hate? Just cause some one speaking untruths makes my stomach ache does not = hate.

Leslie is not saying he hates anyone…he is just claiming he is being treated unjustly due to the color of his skin.

Am I discontent with the current situation in Jonesboro, you betcha I sure as heck am.

Do I hate anyone, not one teeny tiny bit. No hate in my heart.

      How you doing?

  13. sunrisesunset Says:

When, oh, when will Leslie EVER get overhimself? He needs to do himself, and the TJ a BIG favor. Just quit as his daughter suggested. That would be the best thing EVER to happen in Jonesboro since he has been in office.

Do not get me wrong, it does not matter the color of skin who the mayor is if he KNOWS how to do the job. But, Leslie has NO clue how to run a business.

This parish is laughable to the whole state of LA. Corrupt TJ, JPPJ, Library.

  14. sunrisesunset Says:

    Anon y. mous:

So Quitman has nothing according to you. Wonderful schools, nice country neighborhoods, nice subdivisions, low crime rate……if any at all. Do you get my point now?

Why in thunder to do you think everyone is moving out of J’boro for Quitman or Weston?

    • huh Says:

EVERYBODY isn’t. I am still in Jonesboro.

    • Anonymous Says:

Quitman and Weston ARE the areas where people want to move to get out of Jonesboro. Lots of people are ready to move unless the District Att. gets up and makes some move to prosecute with the good evidence he has been given. Possibly that could cure the corruption and restore the town of Jonesboro to a state of affairs so people can be proud to live here. No one is proud to live in a place that is constantly on the news with the town business, the library, the fire department, etc. The ship is going down!!!

Fannin vying to be speaker of House

Count state Rep. Jim Fannin, D-Jonesboro, among those vying to become the next speaker of the House.

“I am who I am. I have a nine-year record,” Fannin said. “I’ve been as fiscally responsible as anyone in that body.”

Also seeking the job are state Reps. Jeff Arnold, D-New Orleans; Chuck Kleckley, R-Lake Charles; Joel Robideaux, No Party-Lafayette; Erich Ponti, R-Baton Rouge; and Hunter Greene, R-Baton Rouge.

The House makes the ultimate decision in picking its leaders, although the governor typically plays a key role.

From the Advocate, Baton Rouge newspaper….

    • anon#1258 Says:

Fiscally responsible? Look at Jonesboro and then say that with a straight face.

      • Anonymous Says:

Rep. Jim Fannin has nothing to do with the foolishness going on in Jonesboro, that is a town matter not state. He was elected to represent the people of his district in state affairs, not town matters.

There are previous reports of missing money at the Arcadia Town Hall as well as Grambling Town Hall…Jackson Parish Police Jury and the Town of Jonesboro….this are such sad times…folks stealing

What is the deal with these small communities?

  17. Anonymous Says:

Dave Roberts should be reinstated as part of any settlement so our FD will have the best rating again and our homeowners insurance will go back down.

  18. sunrisesunset Says:

Glad some of you bloggers are proud of Jonesboro, and are staying there. However, I realize that there are many people that would like to haul a** and leave, but they are stuck there because of circumstances they have no control over.

But, regardless, long live the wonderful communities of Quitman and Weston. Country living at its best.

I was making a joke. Neither TOJ or Washington D.C. have a clue as to how to get their town and country into the black.

  20. sunrisesunset Says:

Of course! I am referring to a balanced budget and under being in the “black”. Anything over that would be in the “red”.
