Ruston City Council Monday Night

The City of Ruston will hold the regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen Monday, May 2, 5:30 P. M. on the second floor of city hall, 401 North Trenton.

Among the highlights to be considered:


There will be a public hearing and final consideration of an ordinance delineating the new board of aldermen districts as proposed at the 4/18/11 special meeting of the board.


Introduction of an ordinance that would legally define theft, illegal possession of stolen things, and resisting an officer. The definition of “resisting” would be expanded to include:

Refusal by the arrested or detained party to give his name and make his identity known to the arresting or detaining officer or providing false information regarding the identity of the arrested or detained person to the arresting or detaining officer.

Light & Power

Consideration of a resolution entering into a professional services agreement with CCG Consulting, LLC and Baller Herbst Law Group, regarding fiber optic data services. The fiber optic system will tie in with the city’s smart grid electrical metering system.

Planning & Zoning

There will be two public hearings regarding applications for conditional use permits – 609 West California and 205 West Woodhaven Road.

Josh Shackleford’s application for the old gas station on West California is to re-open and use the building for a small automotive service center.

The Woodhaven application is for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to build a 1800 square-foot picnic pavilion on their 5-acre lot.

Code Enforcement

The property condemnation process will begin on several properties, and also several public hearings will be conducted on properties that have already been condemned.
