Lincoln Parish Police Jury Meets

The Lincoln Parish Police Jury met tonight and had for the most part a routine meeting. First, the Solid Waste Committee heard from Crochet Equipment Co. of Baton Rouge. That company has been operating the pit burner at the landfill for the past 10 years and offered to renew his contract at the same rate as the prior contract ($15/ton of wood waste burned), but the Jury wants to take bids from other vendors with the hope of a lower price.

The Public Works Committee agreed to a request from the School Board to pave a parking lot at Choudrant school and denied a similar request at the Northeast Supports and Services Center. The NESSC’s roads are too deteriorated and need to be rebuilt, according to Administrator Dennis Woodard. The work for the School Board will be reimbursed to the Police Jury after completion.

The committee also discussed a 4-day work week for highway department personnel and voted to keep it at the existing five day workweek.

The Community Development Block Grant Committee selected Frye Magee & Assocs as administrative consultant and Dean Dick Engineering as engineer for the parish’s block grants.

The full Jury set the property assessment Board of Review meeting for Tuesday, September 22 at 4:00 pm in the Jury meeting room. Property owners may appeal their assessments by completing an appeal form available from the Tax Assessor and appearing at the Board meeting.

The Jury tabled until the next meeting a decision whether to renew a tax exemption for Weyerhaeuser’s Laminated Veneer Mill in Simsboro.

Bids were opened for stalls at the Exhibition Center and Circle T Trailers won the bid.

After accepting committee and travel reports, the Jury adjourned until the September 8 meeting.
