Grambling Mayor Martha Andrus is still Mayor today after Jonesboro Attorney Chris Bowman filed a surprise motion this morning in Judge Cynthia Woodard’s 3rd Judicial District Court and managed to get the two plaintiff lawyers disqualified.
Woodard ruled in favor of Bowman’s motion that the two lawyers – James Colvin, Jr. and Pamela Breedlove – who are also the Town Attorneys for Grambling could not serve as City Attorneys and then turn around and sue the Mayor.
Both attorneys were put on the stand by Bowman and admitted that they had correspondence and contact with Mayor Andrus prior to filing suit to have her removed from office. Bowman entered as evidence two letters and an email that showed contact among the three.
The plaintiffs in the case – the Grambling City Council – will now have to find new lawyers to handle the suit. Woodard continued the original lawsuit until an unspecified later date.
Here is some background on the case from the Ruston Daily Leader.
Lincoln Parish News Online will post the motion and the Judge’s ruling when it becomes available from the Lincoln Parish Clerk of Court’s office.
