Eddie Langston, Ward Two’s Jackson Parish Police Juror tried four years ago to push through a pay raise for JPPJ members, but the motion failed for lack of a second.
From the 12/8/2008 minutes:
Motion Mr. Langston to adopt an ordinance setting the salary of jurors at $1,400 per month effective January 1, 2009. Motion died for the lack of a second.
A public hearing had been held earlier in the meeting at which several citizens spoke.
This was the second public hearing that year on the issue. At the 8/11/2008 meeting, a dozen citizens spoke on the issue – almost all were opposed to the raise.
No formal motion was made for a pay raise at that meeting.
According to a report by The Jackson Independent’s Amber Guyotte, Langston also supports this latest push for more money for jurors. He spoke for the raise at a 12/14/2012 special called meeting of the jury, Guyotte wrote.

i was there. along with several other taxpayers. when the motion was made by eddie you could have heard a pin drop. deathly silent. pres.zeno asked twice if there was a second to the motion, no one would dare open their mouth

You can rest assured there was a second that was agreed to in private; but, when the lights were on and the cameras were rolling the backbone of that individual shriveled to non-existence. They decided all of this before they even step into the room.

Police Jury Members, listen closely. You can not point to any significant measure that you have passed that that has been a great benefit to your constituents. Now you want to line your pockets at our expense for doing jack diddly shit? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? DO SOME GOOD OR LEAVE. Better yet, just cram your pockets with what you taken up to now and LEAVE OFFICE. You deserve to be in jail but if you leave now you can escape that. Which member of the current jury has the guts to propose A REDUCTION in their pay commenserate with what they do? Not a one probably. whoa……go to jail? at least they have the courage to do it in the public eye……they don’t pilfer the tax dollars and then challenge anyone with authority to arrest them like some others we know. don’t make false threats toward people that do take pride in all they don’t do….and those committee meetings…..they say one thing in those and something totally different in the public…..but you won’t see that in the minutes now will you? they shouldn’t be threatened with jail when the other keeps right on rolling like the Little Dug that is full of the excrement from Gate City and Town of Jonesboro. give them the respect due them…..or not.

Let’s see who will make the motion to propose a reduction in their salary. I bet no one will. It would be nice if we had a least 2 or 3 civic minded jury members we could be proud of.It’ not how much money you can make,it’s a chance to serve and make a difference.

Hope Langston and the other jurors visit this website and see that Lincoln Parish jurors are paid $875 a month and Winn Parish jurors $900 a month. Should vote to have a reduction instead of an increase, especially after the Library board debacle, when they didn’t even know about the past situation until somebody dug it up.
If there was no second last year and apparently no support for an increase, why would there be this time when Jonesboro taxpayers and others in the parish are much worse off now than they were then.

I was in a Police Jury meeting and saw Renee Stringer tell them that they didn’t work for the Judicial District, the Sheriff or the D.A………they worked for the people that elected them to office, do you think they may have forgotten that? I have to wonder if they polled the residents of their Ward and asked them what they wanted? How soon they forget……….

Hey Walter,
Man you really need to try and get a handle on your website. It has long since turned into another topix.com. A site where people come to air out each other’s dirty laundry, talk trash and bully each other.
It is getting further and further from what I think you had initially planned, a place for people to voice their thought out, intelligent opinions. I personally have not seen an intelligent opinion on here in about a year.
That “crap” that was put on here last night is exactly what you hear about on the news that young people are killing themselves over. You have since removed it, thankfully, but I wish you would seriously consider maybe starting a method of email sign ins or something to try and limit the amount of garbage (last nights example) that slips by and makes it on here.
Even though it may have only been on for a few hours, that is long enough for plenty enough people to read it and cause harm to the person it is directed towards.
In closing, I do love your website, it is probably one of only 5 I have in my “favorites” that I chrck numerous times a day. I just hate to see it turn into a waste basket for “bullying” and hatred. Keep up the reporting and I hope this letter found it’s way to your eyes.
