Some on Jackson Parish Police Jury Want Pay Raise

Some Jackson Parish Police Jurors (JPPJ) apparently want a pay raise from their current pay of $1,200/month ($1,350/month for the president). See page 63 of the 2011 audit for who got paid what amount.

At the Monday, 1/14/13 meeting of the jury, there is this item on the agenda.

21. Resolution calling Public Hearing for Monday, February 11, 2013, at 5:00PM in the Dr. Charles H. Garrett Community Center to receive public comments on whether the compensation paid to the Parish Police Jurors should be increased.

Monday’s vote on the resolution is likely to be a “test vote” to see whether there are enough votes to pass the raise. If the resolution for a public hearing is approved, the raise will likely pass at next month’s meeting. If the resolution fails, then the proponents will know who are the “weakest links” and need to “get their minds right” for the next time the issue comes up.

Monday’s meeting is at 5:30 PM in the Dr. Charles H. Garrett Community Center, 182 Industrial Drive, Jonesboro.

WTH? it’s not a full time job..and don’t give me the BS about taking a lot of time taking care of the people in your district… each time we elect a new bunch they want more money. you knew what the position paid when you decided to run for office…you were elected to serve the people of jackson parish not your pockets.
show the voters on paper how many hours you are really working each month for the $1200 you are already getting…

  2. Anonymous Says:

almost forgot, does the $1200 include your monthly mileage check?

  3. Read My Lips Says:

I thought you wanted to be elected to serve the people. If you don’t like the salary, step aside and we will elect someone who will serve and not complain about the pay. You sound just like all politicians. starting in Washington DC all the way down to the town of Jonesboro. Wanting more money

  4. OopsThereWentTheMoney Says:

Best I remember, in Louisiana the jurors can increase pay to the state maximum, but it only takes affect after the next election of jurors.
I’m wrong, the law has changed, or they’re ignorant and therefore not worth more money.

  5. Oldman Says:

You elected to serve the people, the $1200.00 should be for expenses so it does’t cost you anything. $1200.00 should be enough. What is the state average Police Jury pay?

  6. Anonymous Says:

    Eddie at work ,,,, again!

  7. Little Richard, Be-Bop-A-Lula Says:

People in hell want ice water. Being paid $16,400 a year to do what? Let the police jury do something to show that they are worthy of a raise. $16,400 added to their regular salary makes for a rather good income that a lot of people would be happy with. As for Anonymous 3:20 comment “Eddie at work. . . again!” If he was referring to Eddie Langston, God help us.

  8. HoleInOne Says:

Everybody now wants a gubberment job: great pay and bennies, plus no need for profit: just confiscate payroll from people.

  9. Anonymous Says:

    My juror is not acceptable.

  10. Anonymous Says:

Do all the juror’s terms end at the same time?

  11. hmmmmm Says:

Use the $16,400 for animal control or give it to DART since its budget got cut. There are plenty of other uses for the money than getting a raise. Like someone else said, it is not a full-time job nor is it meant to be. You should resign if you aren’t happy with $1200 or $1350 a month.

  12. Anonymous Says:

has anyone noticed ? i dont think a single police juror has bothered to add anything to this forum to defend himself or the others.

  13. Oldman Says:

Work to make this parish a better place to live and work , then talk about a raise. This parish has a long way to go. Need more jobs, better roads, better living conditions and less drama.

  14. Over Taxed Says:

you ever stop to think about the (seed of greed) that has been allowed to flourish since the election of one person in 2007, the total abandonment of all that even resembles right. whether you believe it or not, that has spread throughout this Parish and the reckless abandonment has taken root and is sprouting up all over this place.

would you ever thought you would have seen a group of local elected officials beg for more money when the United States is at one of the worst economic down turns since the Depression not to mention the Fiscal Cliff debacle and the new Taxes that have now been imposed on working class Americans.

If your Juror votes for this, you should vote them out unless of course you are one of the recipients of the (seed of greed) or one of the allies and we all know who they are and how they benefit.

  15. Anonymous Says:

Might make sense if they would exempt the Jonesboro residents because that town is broke, and the residents are not going to be able to afford to pay the increased taxes that are surely going to be asked for, and probably voted in, Don’t think that would fly very well with the other town residents in the parish, though, so best drop it for this year and bring it up next year, Maybe things will be better then in Jonesboro, the parish, state and country, though don’t plan on it.

Does ANYONE on this blog actually know what the average number of monthly hours are that these jurors work? Is it 8, 10, 12, 14, 40, 60, (note: I am, of course, poking fun with the last two mentioned)?

Anyway, whatever the answer, they are already paid royally for the small number of hrs. they serve each month. Considering the general public works probably 160 hrs. per month the $1200 the police jurors get is sufficient. Consider, also, most of them have good paying full time jobs. There are many full time working people that do not make much more than $1200 per month.

Greed gone awry? I trust this is not so. But, it just may be the case.

  17. hmmmmm Says:

The sad thing is that these people don’t put the public first. If you accepted the position and now, for whatever reason, think you cannot afford to do it without a raise then step aside. Put us first! Yes you were elected; but, not so you could give yourself a raise. For those who keep running year after year after year and then want a raise, go sit down. There are people who will take your place for the same money. Even more sadly, it has basically become a way for some to earn extra income and not even about serving the public. Instead of a raise….R-E-T-I-R-E! Novel concept, isn’t it?!

    • hmmmmm Says:

And, if we think about this…the same people came up with the idea and were prepared to give themselves a raise a couple years ago. They chickened out when lots of people showed up at the meeting including the media. Maybe they should be invited again? It seems when the light is put on the deeds those involved shrink away.

  18. sunrisesunset Says:

The headline to this blog said “some” of the police jurors want raises. Anyone know just whom the “some” are? Personally, I would like to see a list.

Walter, do you have this info.?

  19. HoleInOne Says:

One thing about it: if they succeed in raising their pay, they will attract a bevy of opponents in the next election. Bet they haven’t thought about that. Since they don’t seem to be great thinkers anyway…
Everyone will want the job when the money is “right” (wrong for taxpayers, though).

  20. Anonymous Says:

Oh! The Lake People Can Pay More Taxes!!!!!

  21. Anonymous Says:

That’s how I look at it too. THEY KNEW THE PAY WHEN THEY RAN FOR OFFICE. It is not lile they were put there, they wanted the job or else they wouldn’t have ran. Most of them could care less about the people or the parish, it’s just an easy check! If they were doing it for the parish, the pay wouldn’t matter at all!

  22. Anonymous Says:

Lets see, Who was the Juror that had his district lines changed so his oponents could not run against him. The same one that insist of a pay raise. ( ward 2 ) Must be Mr. Eddie Langston the only one without a regular job.

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Mr. Sly Foxie Langston. Anonymous, since I do not live on the east side, I assume what you state about the lines being drawn differently are true. He should be EMBARASSED to even hold his head up. Let us all STARE him down the next time we run into him.

    • At home in Jonesbor Says:

Wasn’t he good close friends with that crooked, debarred lawyer Donnie Brunson? If so, Langston learned from the crooked one.

  23. Unlnown Says:

They don’t do shit so why a raise and it don’t mater how many hours they work , tey still over paid

  24. Obama Says:

Put a fire cracker under their asses and see how much of a raise they get.

    • Wondering Says:

They are giving themselves raises while the people in Gate City still has no sewer. They may need to hold on to that money for future fines and penalties they may be facing.

  25. FoolsRushIn Says:

Well, you dummies won’t go vote, or if you do you will vote for the man or party who takes money out of your check and offers part of it back to you as a “freebie” in exchange for your slavering, sellout support for whatever the tyrants want to do to people, just throw me somethin mister is all you care about.
You will sell your birthright which is freedom and liberty, and self-governance and respect for each person; you will give it all away for the promise of a government check or giveaway, whatever the great satan promises and which usually turn out to be useless bosts which they can’t fulfill (Ray Charles can see they don’t have the money, and what they do have, they took away from you to begin with). Many of you sat in churches today, some twice, and yet your real god is government and Barack Obama. Some of you hate BO and government is still your god.
Fools, you got it coming, and like Earl Long said, you ain’t gonna like it.

  26. Read My Lips Says:

Man, I need to run for P J. I never had a “job” where I could give myself a pay raise. Usually when I got a raise, insurance and taxes went up and I had less money than before the raise.
