The latest weekly surveillance report released Friday by Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) shows no reported cases of West Nile Virus in Jackson Parish. The reports are released weekly and posted online.
See here the DHH press release.
See here the report.
At last week’s Board of Aldermen meeting of the Town of Jonesboro, Nicole Patterson said that her eight year old son had contracted the disease. Patterson claimed that he contracted the virus in Jonesboro, because he hadn’t been anywhere else recently.
She said that the town had not sprayed for mosquitoes because of “dirty politics” and “racism.”
Health care providers are mandated to report within one (1) business day insect-borne neuroinvasive disease (west nile virus) suspected cases, confirmed cases, or positive laboratory results.
See here Louisiana’s Sanitary Code.

yes i must agree with her, dirty politics and racism are the culprit, her statement about the “damn complexion” of the mayor is just another excuse for the inability on so many levels of her mayor.
who sat under oath in baton rouge and declared all the issues that were addressed were due to the fact that he was the first african american mayor?
statistically speaking, how many other (first african american mayors) have had such a dismal performance, looking across the Parishes in Louisiana, there are none, especially any that have ever managed to have the now Statewide record of not being able to have a completed audit in a 4 year duration and headed for a record setting 5 years out of 6 in office.
the most amazing thing of all is that people with her mentality are the exact same ones that will keep electing he and his cronies, stewart, fannin, caldwell, kostelka back into office year after year and still do not have enough intelligence to see that they are only enabling those people to continue to destroy the state, parish and town.

I thought they didn’t spray because the don’t have anyone that could take or pass the test and who’s fault is that? The mayor, he hires the staff and the employees, so yet again, let the blame fall at the feet of the one that owns it, the mayor.

Linda mccready has driven the spray truck for years. So whats different now that she cant?
10/15/2012 at 8:55 am |
she hasn’t driven the truck in over 2 years.
10/17/2012 at 10:04 am |
Why can’t Linda McCready STILL drive the spray truck? What’s the problem?
10/15/2012 at 8:43 am |
i beg to differ on cases in the parish…its my understanding that bruce thomas and steve shovan both had west nile….may have been just a rumor but i was told both were sick and that bruce was in hospital for it.
10/15/2012 at 8:49 am |
beg on, call 259-2600 and ask Bruce.
10/15/2012 at 9:25 am |
I also beg to differ on the cases in Jackson Parish. I know of several people that have had positive results, one being a member of my family. Maybe there are so many across the state that the information isn’t being updated as fast as it should.
10/15/2012 at 10:09 am |
Did the racism and poor pitiful abused condition of the mayor and his complexion cause your family to contract west nile?
10/15/2012 at 1:07 pm |
Drive up in the alley on the south side of the old city power plant (across from the police station) and take a peek thru the broken windows and you may find the breeding ground.Bird droppings+water +Mosquitoes= West nile???? Could be we need a >>>>>>GRANT<<<<<< to clean up that nasty and forgotten eyesore.Just thinking ……
10/15/2012 at 1:13 pm |
Contact the owner of the property-Entergy. We could use an audit prior to any application and then we could us accountability for funding before we apply for any additional money. But, I forgot, we don’t have to have either, we just call our buddies in the Capitol city and with a wink and a nod…..we are home free…..see the earlier blog where we in direct deference to the law having been removed from the non compliance list, so yes, get that money tree shakin and lets get some freebies up here! asap!
10/15/2012 at 3:00 pm |
this property belongs to the city, it has always and still does!!!!!
10/20/2012 at 3:20 pm |
According to an Entergy rep. that I spoke with, the old power plant does belong to Entergy. It was part of the deal when LP&L took over. He also said that they have been trying to give that piece of property to the town for quite a while but, no one wants to go through the hassle of epa & deq qualified cleanup.
10/15/2012 at 1:13 pm |
That could also go towards all the abandon houses and overgrown grass throughout the town. Drive down South Polk at the bridge that Renee pointed out in the paper and see the trailer house falling in and the houses across the street from it that is also in bad shape! There are many more in town, but why hasn’t ordinance on these been enforced? First the current administration and no Police Dept. to enforce them!
10/17/2012 at 10:13 am |
I was looking at the former power plants in Jonesboro and the decay and rotting down of these facilities yesterday. Can these buildings be shoved or torn down? Is there a danger that we could be exposed to something other than West Nile virus that these two bldgs. are still standing? They are truly an eyesore. Add to that the other areas of neglect along the residential streets and Jonesboro looks like a long, lost, forlorn town.
Where is the PRIDE Jonesboro once had? Oh, I know. It is landlords and the now esteemed mayor that is in office.
10/15/2012 at 1:15 pm |
That belongs to Entergy.
10/15/2012 at 2:26 pm |
I thought Entergy gave it back to the town many years ago after they built the sub station behind the police dept….not sure….no facts…??? But it still needs to be demoed. But i think it contains hazardous mat.or Simmons and THE MOON CRICKET mayor would get a grant and turn it into low income housing or something.
10/15/2012 at 2:31 pm |
the utes would have already scarfed that up…..Entergy owns it and it’s contaminated……..
10/15/2012 at 3:01 pm |
call bea rice, one of the only ones left in jonesboro that knows anything and she will tell you this was given back to the town years ago. THIS IS CITY PROPERTY
10/15/2012 at 3:30 pm |
incorrect…..call bea rice…….you are wrong, while you are at it call this number…318-259-2151…..then come back with that answer…..mooncricket……
10/15/2012 at 9:35 pm |
Wrong!!!!
10/15/2012 at 9:39 pm |
At the time, Entergy tried to give it back to the town but the administration was to smart to take any donations that would cost the town thousands to clean up. The town refused. Now Entergy is stuck with the PCB,mercury laced property.
10/17/2012 at 10:20 am |
With the two bldgs. in such decay, could we possibly have PCB & mercury already LEAKING out of these facilities in low levels?
10/15/2012 at 2:35 pm |
by the by, what is a moon cricket, is it akin to a moon shadow……moon shadow moon shadow.
10/15/2012 at 3:55 pm |
Not to worry…If it did belong to the town the head moon cricket could cash a cd and clean it up and turn it in to a rec center or something.
10/16/2012 at 9:52 pm |
could it be that Ms. Patterson was looking for a settlement??? Is she defending the mayor because she lives/has lived with his nephew?? Could it be that they didn’t marry so that she could get more aid??
10/16/2012 at 10:15 pm |
if the people with authority to actually do something about all the illegal activity that has occurred would have worked as hard enforcing the law as some people have to tried to defend their actions by playing the almighty race card, this town wouldn’t be in such a pathetic shape…..but weak vote seeking lackies sit back and cry while the whole deck is played over and over and over and everyone just whines about the actions that take place on a daily basis.
you need to go jack up city hall and tie a chain on A-1 and control traffic while he drags it off and takes everything with it.
10/16/2012 at 10:11 pm |
Please go interview her and get the medical records that prove her child has/had West Nile Virus. I don’t believe she has anything such thing. It can be uploaded to your site or she can give it to the news station, maybe Sharney at channel 10. But, methinks, the document doesn’t exist. Ask her and find out!
10/16/2012 at 10:24 pm |
what is she going to get, a used bandaid from a paper cut or a pencil without an eraser from trying to change all the numbers to show the world much money the town has (but really doesn’t have), or a copy of the balanced budget that shows that infamous investment that doesn’t exist? maybe she will come back and read the dead sea srolls this time, just hope she doesn’t trip going in the front door……so much swept under that rug……might hang her toe……hope they have insurace by then…..and while you get the documentation, get the facts that show it was a racist Jonesboro mosquito that bit the child and infected it.
10/16/2012 at 11:46 pm |
The white business men of Jonesboro put their heads and money together and paid to have the mosquitos trained to only bite certain races! They did! I aint playing!
10/17/2012 at 7:52 am |
so that’s why the businesses close on Wednesday at noon, so they can go to the mosquito training sessions……wow, glad we finally got the facts on that…….buzzz buzzz buzzzz buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
10/17/2012 at 11:17 am |
This is getting silly now.
10/17/2012 at 1:31 pm |
it’s silly everyday, now.
10/19/2012 at 10:42 pm |
Still no report of West Nile? Or no interest in interviewing the woman Walter? Really, if her child really had/has west nile it is a public health matter and we all deserve to know the truth.
