I wonder if there is any way the PJ could defund the useless Sparta Ground Water Commission which is nothing more than a power grab by local environmentalists attempting to create a crisis where none exists. They constantly preach that the Sparta Acquifer is drying up despite evidence painting the opposite picture. The only two low points in the acquifer are in Hodge at Stone Container which has some 27 water wells, and Riverwood in Monroe which could easily use filtered river water for its needs. Water levels at the two wells for the Hico Water System have remained at the same level for some 30 years. Additionally, there are a multitude of natural springs across the acquifer providing a steady source of water. If the acquifer is drying up like we've been led to believe, why do these many natural springs continue to run unimpeded by low water levels? Why do tests around the acquifer continue to show the same water levels with no declines? There is no water level crisis in the Sparta Acquifer and attempts to portray one defy common sense.
