You missed the most important one of all: This second resolution by the Town is going to be ruled invalid too, just as the first one was. There will be no choice except to go back to a full police department.

I predict the fiscal administrator will restore a full police department to Jonesboro after he gets the budget figures from Chief Horton, for several reasons: (1) It is more effective to have a full-time police department, because it can center entirely on the citizens of Jonesboro and its needs; (2) It is more economical in the long run than having to reimburse the Sheriff’s department; (3) The Police Chief can select, train, and decide upon the personnel; (4) Almost all towns the size of Jonesboro have a Police Department; (5) Jonesboro has had one for over 100 years, and there is no good reasson to change now;
(6) The mayor and town council did not do sufficient investigation as to alternatives before voting to discontinue it; (7) The money that was saved is being spent on items that are not nearly as important as law enforcement, such as doubling the mayor’s salary, excessive cell phone use, and about a dozen more administrative expenses.

Let me see if I have this right: Sheriff Brown sent a bill to the Town of Jonesboro for $39,000 for July law enforcement. He thinks that expense will double in the future, meaning about $80,000 a month, or close to a million dollars a year. Thompson cut the police department to one person because he wants to cut expenses, he says.
By what line of reasoning does he think this is going to cut expenses? Of course, it is not what he thinks any more, it is what the fiscal administrator thinks is the best way to go.

I can’t believe how badly LT has messed up our town. Don’t the people that support him want a decent home to live in? It really amazes me that all these crooks think about is what they can get away with. When there is no more town there won’t be a place for them to get away with anything. So many people and businesses are going to wise up if this isn’t straightened out and move out of Jonesboro. Then it will just be a ghost town that we all once loved with an idiot for a mayor. I no longer live in J’boro, but I would cheer fully move back home tomorrow if it would help get Thompson out of office. I am so sick for our town. I agree with several others….Stringer for Mayor!
