Jonesboro Police Department to be Restaffed

Sources this morning have told Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO) that the Jonesboro Police Department will soon be restaffed to provide 24 hour protection to the town’s citizens.

Fiscal administrator William Ryder has instructed Chief Wesley Horton to develop and submit a budget to accomplish that goal, the sources said.

It is unclear how long before the restaffing takes effect, but reportedly the administrator told the chief to have the budget submitted to him as quickly as possible.

Also, the sources said the town’s other departments have been told to submit budgets.

LPNO will continue to follow this breaking news story.

The town is to supply police protection for it’s citizens. Just as we have been paying taxes for.

Let the screams of racism begin

  2. hmmm Says:

My question—since this was done by act of council, and we do operate under the Lawrason Act, how can the FA usurp elected officials voting? Just curious about all the ins and outs of the political process and how the rules are changed when a court appointed FA is put into place.

But, I still question whether they all committed malfeasance by doing so anyway. Where oh where is the DA? Head in sand perhaps?

    • The Jet Says:

I believe Mr. Abbott has posted before the exact procedures and powers that govern what happens when a municipality or parish goes under state fiscal administration.

As I said before, Mr. Ryder just became God in Jonesboro, Louisiana. Leslie can sit in his office, play Solitaire on his computer, and call himself Mayor and ride around in his A-1 Mobile (provided he pays for his own gas to put in it), but he has about as much power to control the day-to-day goings on of Jonesboro as Elizabeth II has to rule Great Britain (actually less so, the Queen still has constitutional duties mandated her, even if just ceremonial). He is a figurehead, a puppet, a glorified hood ornament. Always was. Except now, those who were pulling his strings are out of power as well.

One more thing for any lurking Leslie psychphants, I wouldn’t get my hopes up for winning on appeal. 2nd Circuit won’t go against Teat. State Supreme Court won’t reverse either. Can’t go to federal court unless you can make this a civil rights issue, and guess what, its not. Party’s over.

      • sunrisesunset Says:

Absolutely. Leslie is losing a lot of sleep since the respectable FA has come to town.

  3. Bruce Wayne Says:

    Cheif Horton,

Please check out the gathering this Sunday at the Town Hall.

The majority of the vehicles have out of state license plates.

If the public’s building and the public dollars paying for the utilities being consummed, the public has the right to know that the building is being rented and rental income is coming in for the budget.

    Thanks!

    • Around Black Lake Says:

Yes please do have someone do that along with doing their job on every shift, not sleeping or refusing to do their job because of some unwritten rule aka the buddy system, looking the other way for certain folks. Come back and enforce the law, write the tickets and make arrests, then see where the money goes. I would imagine the FA will expect no less than that. I would imagine the cronies won’t like it, but here’s a second chance, make it work.

    • JustMe Says:

Well, u were right. No cars after lunch but late this evening – parking lot in front bout full! Hmmm, wonder why. Anyone have the answer? I’m interested to hear!

  4. Donald Marion Fowler Says:

Thank you, Mr. Ryder. I feel that the first step in a long process of recovery has begun.

  5. Anonymous Says:

Very impressed with Mr. Ryder’s work so far. He has a long way to go, but I suspected that reinstating the Police Department would be one of the first and most important things that he would act on. Next target: the mayor’s salary increase.

    • Anonymous Says:

I am feeling the Rev Dill needs to earn his keep at the Town Hall.

Show me what you got, big man!

  6. Anonymous Says:

Yeah, the FA has been around, and he knows what other communities this size are paying their mayors. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it go all the way back to the $35,000 that Thompson knew was the mayor’s salary when he ran for the office.

  7. Anonymous Says:

    Thank you Mr. Ryder!

  8. Anonymous Says:

You can tell this administrator knows how a town should be operated, unlike these pitiful excuses for a mayor and majority of the town council members. Maybe our citizens will see what can happen when we get effective leadership, and turn out for the next election.

  9. Anonymous Says:

Progress already and it has only been one week. I do believe Chief Horton knows how to do a budget, but doubt if the other departments know how. Mr. Ryder don’t play these silly games either!

    • The Bank3r Says:

maybe he can gather them all up and tutor them……one we know will seek out the helping hand of the king…..and mr gherkin.

      • Anonymous Says:

They can’t help because they don’t know how themselves! They see numbers on a piece of paper and think they can spend every penny.

  10. Anonymous Says:

This guy is moving a lot faster than I expected. I think it’s pretty awesome. I was expecting him to come in and things not change for months, but asking for a revised budget from all departments. Sounds like he’s ready to get things changed around here!

    • Anonymous Says:

I bet the other department heads dont know how to do a budget. I wonder if the fire chief is talking to the fa and throwing les under the bus now the ship is sinking. Thats kinda how he works

      • Anonymous Says:

I hope the fa doesnt fall for that crap like ol les did. They call the chief : A MAN WITH MANY FACES.

  11. Anonymous Says:

I say let’s have a recall vote and get rid of the negro mayor and elect Renee to run the town

    • Anonymous Says:

She has no people skills, not going to happen.

      • Jeff Says:

Don’t worry, any vote she takes from you will be vote you don’t get either with or without people skills.

      • sunrisesunset Says:

Don’t know about Renee’s “people skills”, but she surely does have business skills.

Mayor does not have ANY skills whatsoever.

  12. Anonymous Says:

Guess all those lawbreakers that were planning on targeting Jonesboro will go somewhere else now.

  13. Anonymous Says:

I suggest we keep our comments to a minimum and let things get done for Jonesboro in the best way possible. Let’s keep it positive without the slander. Please!!!!

    • Pelican Pete Says:

People can express their opinions all day long, it’s still America. This blog does not control any action the F.A. makes or any decisions that may occur at his discretion. That’s the problem now, everyone has been so afraid to make a sound for fear that it might be politically incorrect, bull crap….speak out or go hide and let the remainder of the town crash.

  14. Anonymous Says:

Haven’t heard a single person ask what race the FA is. That proves that most of us don’t care, as long as he can do the job.

    • Anonymous Says:

That’s because it doesn’t matter what race he is, as long as the town is getting back on the right track of moving forward. The race of one person is not the problem with Jonesboro, it’s the incompetence of the current administration!

  15. Anonymous Says:

Everyone that posts on here needs to come to the council meeting on Tuesday, August 14th. The more there will prove to the FA that we are truly concerned about our town and that we are not about race!

  16. Anonymous Says:

The definition of “slander” is “the uttering of false charges or misrepresentations, defamatory statements.” Which of these fits that description?

  17. Anonymous Says:

Another innovative move by the FA, asking the department heads to submit a budget which they think will be adequate for them to properly carry out their duties, instead of dictating to them what they will get without any input on their part.

    • Chatty kathy Says:

Dictatorial ruler in a self styled kingdom surrounded by bowing clones that talk the assigned talking points when the short string is pulled…..with a single track recorded to say the same thing…..sad.

      • No name Says:

Would you please clarify your comment regarding “dictatorial ruler”? Are you referring to Mr. Ryder or Leslie Thompson?

  18. JustMe Says:

Thank you again, Judge Teat for doing a great job when given the chance and thus allowing some good things to happen, in spite of this Administration.

  19. Bruce Wayne Says:

    Yes..thanks Judge Teat!

Wesley Horton, you have been given a second chance to up hold the law for the good folks of Jonesboro. For this, we are glad.

Please start you day tomorrow by investigating the useage of the Town Hall.

If it is rented out, that is fine.

If it is being used for free by one of the Mayor’s buddies, that is not fine.

  20. Anonymous Says:

Walter, any truth to the rumor that the mayor’s car has been taken from him?

    • Anonymous Says:

Wow! Haven’t heard that one, but so hope it’s true! Also need to park all other town owned vehicles at the end of each day! No more freebies!

  21. Anonymous Says:

Did anyone check cit hall this morning to see if “church” was held?

    • go look Says:

They are all there, backed in this time………

      • Anonymous Says:

Was the car the mayor drives there? Notice I did not say Mayors car :) )

      • sunrisesunset Says:

Guess they backed in so their license plates could not be read. Sure would be good to get lic. plate numbers and run a check on them. May get some information that way as to whom may be visiting city hall on Sunday mornings.

On the other hand, how lawful would that be? I think it seems suspicious that ALL vehicles were backed in.

    • Show us the MONEY Says:

Did not want the plates of the cars ran?

Did not want the out of town plates seen?

      Interesteing for sure.

  22. the truth Says:

That ole stringer lady wants to be the mayor so bad that she doing everything in her power to make it look like she care about the town. We don’t need a bulldager for our leader. God said men and women not women and women.

    • the truth 4 u Says:

You have got to be one of the felony thug bruthas that worried about your job………God said obey the law of the land……try that before you judge anyone….brutha

    • Just Made a Mistake Says:

Top Cop aka Educated aka God Child, God said thou shalt not steal too, you remember that one, you know, it’s one of the 10.

    • Anonymous Says:

If you are wrong and you know it clap your hands….clap…clap…

Maybe you and Leslie can be roomies at the graybar hotel….oops…

Wait…you like your soap not on a rope. Careful not to share your illness with the others.

    • anonymous Says:

You are just a hate filled poorly educated short guy who has been kneecapped by a woman. That really chaps yor a__ now don’t it? Somebody asking intelligent questions has not been part of the program has it?

      • Anonymous Says:

What were your intelligent questions? I seem to have missed them in your rant above THE TRUTH?

Take your meds now before you get worse….

      • Anonymous Says:

        Kneecapping….is that thug talk?

        Does not sound too intelligent.

You would like a criminal for you leader.

      • sick and tired Says:

To anonymous (4:53pm)–I imagine it does chap his a__. It seems anytime someone stands up to this regime, they are slandered. And, when it is a woman, oh gee….. I, for one, am sick and tired of people getting so upset when women assert themselves. We aren’t just a bunch of fragile crybabies. Ms. Stringer is the only one to question this Mayor’s actions and it ticks them off. I applaud her ability to stand up to this BS as I am not sure I would have stayed in it. The constant attacks and accusations would be hurtful to anyone. I just pray that God would give her an extra special measure of grace and blessings.

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Stop being so hateful & bitter. You are an idiot. Didn’t your mother teach you anything?

Renee is not “old” and she truly does care what happens to the town YOU live in. Don’t you care at all that she has Jonesboro’s best interest at heart? Or, had you rather have the town continue down a path that has been nothing but CHOAS since the mayor has been in office?

    • Anonymous Says:

What in the hell is a bulldager?!! LOL

  23. Anonymous Says:

Yes, there were four cars there. One with texas tags.

    • Anonymous Says:

Was one of the four cars the car that Mayor Thompson has been driving that is paid for by the tax payers?

  24. Anonymous Says:

I ask this about “that Stringer lady”!! If she ” is doing everything in her power to make it look like she loves this town”, then maybe ever think that she does love this town??

    • Anonymous Says:

So true! If she didn’t care, why would she put herself out there by speaking the truth to Baton Rouge, The DA, and not afraid of what she posts here and in the paper! It takes guts to try to help a dying town!

  25. brown grove Says:

    Leslie thompson for mayor again

  26. Anonymous Says:

Is it okay if the Mayor rides the mule to work today?

  27. Anonymous Says:

So…who’s cars were in the City Hall parking lot yesterday evening?

Is there a rental agreement that the City Hall is being rented out on Sundays?

Was the Mayor and a majority of the council members there having an illegal meeting?

Wesley Horton, please investigate…..it is time for the abuse and misuse of public property to be stopped.

  28. Anonymous Says:

Maybe the New Deacons of Defense are meeting at the town hall on Sundays.

They are here to right the wrongs currently being commented against the first black mayor and majority black town council.

Step back in time and stir it all up ….make a lot of noise so folks will forget about the missing money and abuse of the budget.

  29. Anonymous Says:

It would be pretty easy to guess what is going on Sundays at Town Hall. Just take a photo of the license plates, check who the autos are registered to, and go from there. My guess is it has nothing to do with church or religion, although that is what they would like for us to think.

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Absolutely! And just what have “they” named the so called church or religion? Just like you, I do not believe their meetings have anything to do with religion. I believe they are holding “secretive” meetings about what they need to do next to get out of this mess they created.

“Mirror, mirror, on the wall please tell us we are the fairest of them all”. Not!!!!

  30. Anonymous Says:

Maybe you know something the rest of us don’t, Sunrise. What have they named the “so-called church or religion”?

  31. sunrisesunset Says:

Of course, I am only jesting when I said, “I wonder what they call the church and religion.” Please reread my blog again where it says, “I do not think the meetings have anything to do with religion.” Don’t know anything. I would like to know the answer to that myself………that is…..what is really happening there each Sunday? It is totally not the norm.
