Almost a year after Second Judicial (Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson parishes) District Court Division B Judge Jimmy Teat ruled last August that the Town of Jonesboro’s controversial mayor Leslie Thompson was forbidden from making any expenditures under ordinances 700 and 701, the Louisiana Court of Appeal Second Circuit will hear oral arguments on an appeal of the ruling, in the case Essmeier v Jonesboro.
Plaintiff attorney Bobby Culpepper this week sent a letter to the three plaintiffs – Don Essmeier, Dalton Cruse, and James Schmidt – notifying them of the hearing at 1:30 PM, August 7, 430 Fannin Street, Shreveport.
See here the letter.
Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO) will cover the hearing.

Very good….and surely if Teat’s ruling is upheld, Leslie will appeal again to the Supreme Court….
Perhaps the mayor will attend with his fine town council

In 1932, President of the United States Herbert Hoover announced that he was slashing his own salary voluntarily by 20 per cent, from $75,000 to $60,000 a year because of the poor economy. In 2011, the mayor of a small town in Louisiana announced that he ws doubling his salary from $35,000 to $70,000 a year, despite the fact that the national and that town’s financial conditions were in bad shape.
