There are a couple of new filings in the lawsuit lodged two weeks ago against the Town of Jonesboro by the Attorney General. One is an answer to the suit filed by the town’s attorney, Carol Powell-Lexing.

Also there is an order from Second Judicial District (Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson parishes) Division B Judge Jimmy Teat setting the hearing time at 9:30 AM, and moving the proceedings to open court, instead of in chambers.

Today’s Jackson Independent will surely enlighten EVERYONE to what’s happening in Jonesboro. 3/4ths of the front page says it all. As well, Mrs. Blanche’s excellent letter to the editor is great.

No; but, everyone should jump up and say “we aren’t going to tolerate racism in our town.” PERIOD. It’s not like she called him an A**hole or a jerk or a f***ing idiot…she chose a word that conjures up some deep rooted things for people on both sides. I think it shows how she feels within her soul. She is wrong. Flat out wrong and we shouldn’t just wash over it.
And, no, we don’t pardon the mayor for his wrongdoings. But, really, if we expect anything to come of this and to end up being stronger together (all of us) we are going to have to squelch the nonsense and the stupidity. People like the NAACP are chomping at the bit hoping someone like her will come into the light so they can scream “racism” about the entire issue when we know the entire investigation isn’t about the Mayor’s color; but, his wrongdoing. On you tube, there are fights in Jonesboro and it is black young men fighting each other and the N word is every other work being said…

All you have to do is contact him personally.
Must want to keep track of the folks wanting this public information.
So, whats up with him posting ONLY the outburst of Ms. Roberts for all to see and hiding the rest of the meeting? Especially after he has posted the previous meetings on you tube and his personal site.

I agree to several points, 1. Yes, there was disrespect on all sides at the meeting that the video didnt show. 2. Walter Abbott should look into “disturbing the peace- any words communicated in an offensive, derisive, or annoying manner in which to offend or annoy.” Mr. Abbott was the target for off color comments from the mayor and panel all night at the meeting. Now, i believe in FREEDOM OF SPEECH as much as anyone but, if freedom of speech allows them to comment to abbott as they wish, offensive or not, then why isn’t Roberts’ statement protected under the same idea? 2. I agree what Roberts’ said, shouldn’ t have been said, but i also agree with, if ” that word ” is so offensive to the black race then it shouldnt be used. BY ANY RACE! -p.s. if a white person is referred to, in a derragatory manner, as, in example, ” that white boy/ girl said this or that “, is that being racial also?

As a black man, I don’t use the N word and don’t understand why black folk use a word that was meant to berate us. As far as white people using the word, I haven’t heard, with my two ears, a white person say that word in 15 years. Until I watched the video, I didn’t even know white people still said it. I read what is written here mainly because I enjoy a good laugh or two. Some of the comments sound like they are coming from very intelligent people; other comments sound like the ravings of the uniformed who just like to spout off, even though they know little or nothing about the topic on which they speak. Then there are the absolute idiots who like seeing what they say in print even though to most people their dribble is just that. As for Blanche Bishop, your opinion of her column is much different from mine. For starters, edit her work; for an allegedly intelligent she has difficulty putting together coherent sentences. Secondly, go back as far as you can in the Jackson Independent archives and read her columns very closely and notice the overt racism that she has in her columns. I am certain that she will tell you that she is not a racist, that’s the racist mantra. I bet you can get her to say that she has a lot of black friends. More racist mantra. I feel that the Jackson Independent is on its last legs as circulation is down and sales in stores ain’t what it used to be.

The lack of logic in your first sentence demonstrates to me that you are need of help when it comes to understanding the written word. The most common retort to the charge of racism is “I am not a racist as many of my friends are black.” But that person is never seen in the company of blacks, either at their home or hers. Ask Blanche why she attends an all white reunion instead of grouping her reunion with the rest of JHHS? Could it be that group of people doesn’t want to associate with the graduates of JHHS once it became integrated? If so, then I guess all the Jackson High reunions that are all black is because those folks are racist.
Typically, you go to reunions to see folks you went to school with….so if Blanch Shows went her reunion, I would guess it would be all white folks she graduated with.

hey walter heres one for you,yesterday after lunch the was jonesboro town truck and worker at the taco bell in ruston i have a picture to prove it but dont know how to post it on here..the guy who was driveing it is the one with all the long braids and wears a ball cap.he is always with the mayor at his meetings leslie.s side kick. he was on towns time in a town owned vehicle standing in the parking lot shooting the BS with someone.so now i guess the town workers can drive a town owned vehicle anywhere and get paid for it.if you have some way for me to get the picture to you let me know

If the town employee was in Ruston in a town vehicle on town time WITH permission of his immediate supervisor, there is no problem for the employee.
If the supervisor has been given permission that allows his town employees to drive the town owned autos out of town on town business, all is fine as well.
Why you folks just trying to make a big deal out of this?
Focus on the missing money…..follow the money trail….when you solve that mystery, the rest of the problems will be reduced.
