Just days before the Town of Jonesboro abolished its police department – allegedly due to budget constraints – town personnel and equipment were captured on camera installing town-owned portable barricades for a summer church camp event at Jimmie Davis State Park on Caney Lake east of Chatham.
Reportedly, several hours were spent transporting, erecting, and dismantling the barricades during the week of June 18-22. Also, sources said town equipment was used to spray the area for insect pests.

If I gambled, I would bet that this is just a small sample of what occurs 24/7, but all the political ties will insure that nothing happens. It’s ok to cater to a particular church, but you can’t see your way to provide police protection to the very people that pay a fee every month much less their taxes to have a service provided to them. Maybe since this is a State Park, the Attorney General gave his permission and the State Representative blessed it, since the king does brag all the time about his affiliation with both those gents and then there is the District Attorney-maybe he was the guest speaker. It never gets any better, it just gets worse, they can’t pay the bills they owe, but they can use tax dollars to do stuff like this. You people over there need to wake up.

good question, should be a receipt for all of that, guess they rented the chemicals to spray for insects too, and they rented the employees and vehicles and paid a portion of their benefits for that day and they even took care of all the TOJ calls for those days while the town employees were out there working……yes….they rented it all! thank you for pointing out the obvious….it’s just a rental.

This has gone on for years and years….other mayors did this as well….
It did not cost the town anything but a little gas to drive out to the lake.
If the employees were just sitting around with not one thing to do, this is good…it got them working.
What you want a vote at the town meeting for the church to use the barricades and microphone?
The motion would have been approved so it really does not matter that there was no vote.
Stop looking for stuff to get folks upset with our Mayor.

Ok, “Messy”, I agree with you on one thing. Yes, if the towns workers don’t have ANYTHING to do, then yes, help some local churches, not just one picked by a certain person!!!
