JPSO to Bill ToJ for Policing

The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) will bill the Town of Jonesboro for policing and patrol duties that formerly were done by the Jonesboro Police Department, Sheriff Andy Brown wrote today in a letter to the town’s controversial mayor Leslie Thompson.

Brown wrote in part:

I have acknowledged that I will not create an injustice to any citizen when in need but I am not under contract nor have I signed any agreement to provide these services. If we are left in the position to provide these services I intend to charge the Town of Jonesboro for man-hours, equipment costs, fuel costs, etc. As Sheriff I nor any of my deputies will be under any obligation to answer to you or any council members.

It would be in your best interest to reconsider funding the police department. I do not see that it will be any less expensive than what you have cut out of your budget if the Sheriff’s Department provides law enforcement or communications for the fire department.

See here the letter.

WOOHOO Andy! I was kinda thinking the same thing. With all these strange budget cuts and changes, it’s nice to see some of the town’s citizens and Jackson Parish elected officials standing up and explaining financially how it is wrong.

  2. Anonymous Says:

So why is it that I ALWAYS see Parish cops pulling over people in town for YEARS?…..not on the outskirts of town but in town. This is just a bunch of BS and ways to support their great prison system and to ‘get back at the current administration’. So now the table is turned? Again look up the Republican platform….’They do not condone big government and having so many officers for this population seems unlogical…..Look up the per diem of officer that exists in other states….Our population does not support this number of officers. BTW….does the sherriffs office still have K9′s or do they just drive around in the expensive K9 SUV’s…Not very green to have such large vehicles remember who is paying the gas for all these cars….WE ARE>>>>

  3. JPSO #1 Says:

First of all the “great prison system” is self supporting. Second-unlogical is not a word. Third-Sheriff’s Deputies do not receive a Per Diem- defined-is a daily allowance for expenses, a specific amount of money that an organization gives an individual per day to cover living and traveling expenses in connection with work done away from home or on tour. Fourth-the population does support the the number of officers as the Sheriff’s Audits have always, I repeat, ALWAYS been clear, that in effect attests to the fact that his Office and Department is SOLVENT, something the current administration has no idea how replicate. Speaking of Green, why don’t you go file a FOIA request and ask for the Fuel Charges by just one vehicle, the A-1 Mobile then come back and rant about paying for one gallon of fuel by the JPSO. You are paying for all the mismanagement and legal fees and accounting fees and etc etc etc., by the Town so get over it, at least with the JPSO you know where your money goes.

  4. Anonymous Says:

Thank You Sheriff Andy Brown! I hope when the town is late paying that the department will add late charges to the bill. Good luck getting paid for services provided.

  5. Neighbor Says:

Thank you so much Andy for taking this stand. Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and I am so proud to have you in charge of the safety for Jackson Parish.

  6. Aryan Nations World Headquarters Says:

The great Mayor Leslie Thomspon at his finest. Leslie couldn’t manage to pour piss out of a boot. Incompetence runs deep in the gene pool. That’s why Leslie plays in the shallow end.

    • At Home in Jonesboro Says:

Aryan nations: We don’t need your kind in Jonesboro. We are having problems that are life-affecting and you bring your dribble into the discussion. In my opinion, the gene pool is contaminated because of all of the in-breeding in your organization. Take your racist hating crap some place that wants it. We don’t!

      • Anonymous Says:

Don’t speak for me ‘At Home in Jonesboro’. It’s about time somebody with some balls stood up for the white people in Jonesboro. Come on back anytime you feel like it Aryan Nations. We need your kind of politics here.

        • sunrisesunset Says:

I give that a resounding 2 thumbs up!

          • At Home in Jonesboro Says:

Sunrisesunset, why not just go ahead and get the KKK in Jonesboro to come out of the closet and do their thing. Racism has no place in our town and we don’t need people who keep on perpetuating it. The CTIC is incompetent and needs to be removed from office. A recall would work better than what the idiots of the Aryan Nations and KKK and all of the other hate-mongering groups want to do. Personally, I don’t believe there are enough white voters in town to vote out the clown prince of stupidity. I keep hoping that what’s left of the mill never closes for if it does, we will just be another Dodson. It’s about time that the white people of Jonesboro stand up for themselves and then there will be no need for the likes of the Aryan Nations and KKK.

            • Aryan Nations World Headquarters Says:

This At Home in Jonesboro persons sounds like a closet racist who talks out of both sides of the neck. The good book says that A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Then it also says to let your yay mean yay and yourt nay mean nay. In other words, you can’t have it both ways. So which is it At Home in Jonesboro ? You going to stand with the White folks who you want to vote out the Mayor which is what Aryan Nations was espousing the day we entered Jonesboro. If you would have listened to the message rather than let your blind hatred of us guide you into that dark closet.

              • Amber Says:

Every time you respond to the stupidity it just keeps on coming back for more, you know like the good book says…..a dog returns to it’s vomit and eats it. Just ignore it, it like a bad day will soon pass.

              • At Home in Jonesboro Says:

No, I am not a closet racist nor do I talk out of both sides of my mouth. Leslie Thompson is an incompetent idiot whom I want to see out of office – legally and not by virture of your diatribe. We (the world) have experienced the aryan message before but then you must know that because Hitler is one of your heroes. The world, and especially the United States of America, doesn’t need to go through that again. I urge you and your ilk to take your racism elsewhere and leave us to solve our own problems. Go sieg heiling some place else. When I read or hear about the Aryan Nations, a joke comes to mind – “one of its members was getting a divorce and he asked his lawyer, ‘Once the divorce is final, will she still be my mother.’” I am not led by blind hatred but if you would read your bylaws, you will see who is afflicted with blind hatred.

                  • At Home in Jonesboro Says:

The Aryan Nations is right and I am wrong? Anonymous, I see a white sheet hanging in your closet if you feel that a idiot racist who idolizes Hitler and the things he stood for and feels that only the whites are destined to rule the world. Unfortuately these inbred morons have the right to speak their mind but that doesn’t mean the intelligent have to get in these shit for brains idiots out of town. I would be willing to state, with a fair degree of certainity, that you will dress up today and go to church and try to put yourself off as a God-fearing, fellow man loving Christian. Hypocrisy at the highest level and all you are fooling is yourself.

            • sunrisesunset Says:

Okay, “At Home in Jonesboro” since you can mouth off words about Ayran Nations and KKK, why don’t you mouth off words about the NAACP…….one of the most hate filled groups there is. True idiots for sure. Gun toting, intimidating voters, unjust use of power…….you get it?

And, do not call me a racist. Never have I said the KKK needs to come out of the closet nor have I said the Ayran Nations needs to become involved in Jonesboro’s mess. What I have AGREED with is the message of Ayran Nations, period………..and that message is the stupid mayor needs to go. And, may I add, that when Ayran Nations appeared in Jonesboro months ago, wasn’t it the NAACP that was the distraction across the street at the door of a church? Absolutely, yes! They created noisy confusion, they were loud, and they were shouting down the Ayran Nations by causing conflict. If they had not done this, the Ayran Nations rally and the NAACP rally would have been peaceful.

So, please give the bloggers your thoughts about the NAACP!!!!

              • At Home in Jonesboro Says:

From the start, let it be know that I am a white person. Also from the start, let me define you for what you are – a F***ing racist. Period. No doubt about it. What you say about the NAACP carrying weapons, intimidating voters, and using power unjustly is pure crock. Yeh, I will admit to their going around the country to protest against things that they believe are wrong and I will admit that they help people become registered voters (a far cry from what you say). I want that mayor out of office for he is a nincompoop first class and doesn’t know his head from his ass, but I am not going to resort to violence and I might even march in protest against him. Here is something from the Aryan Nations web page. “We are an international white supremacist, NEO-Nazi organization that is affilated with the Ku Klux Klan. We were formed in the 1970s by Richard Girnet Butler as an arm of the Christian Identity Group, Church of Jesus Christ – Christian. They say that they are for Ethical National Socialism as practiced by the Fuhrer in the days of the Third Reich. Another statement states “N***** worship – the time of the year in which everyone is supposed to bow down and worship the ultimate N*****, MLK. Do you really think that they are in Jonesboro to help with the situation or to make it worse. I fear that they are trolling for new members and you are nibbling. Of course I realize that if enough “other than white voters” are registered by the NAACP, then the Mittwitts chances of winning go down. Didn’t we fight a war to get rid of the NAZI shit and now people line up behind their successors?

                • praying Says:

Alright At Home in Jonesboro, even though I do agree with you about the Aryan Nations and KKK causing more problems in the town of Jonesboro, I have to let you know what happened back in the 60′s here in this little town. Some of the older generations that still live here might remember. The African American, “I am being politically correct.” They were protesting the business and so forth, then it got out of hand and they threatened to burn Jonesboro down. The way I see it, Leslie Thompson is doing his dirty work and running behind the rest of the african americans to defend him, thus fueling racial tension. So I ask you, since we no longer have a police force. What would you do when a race war broke out in the town? Even if we do get rid of the mayor the legal way, there is still a good chance for a race riot. Leslie has been harping and harping on race till I am just SICK of hearing it. I just hope and I will continue to pray for the town of jonesboro, and that the people will wise upand change history instead of repeating it!

                  • At Home in Jonesboro Says:

I am of that older generation (70+) and if I remember correctly it had to do with the paper mill and the wood haulers (mostly the black ones) not being paid the same as the white wood haulers. Threats were made but nothing of significance came of it. I can remember crosses being burned in the field where the Citgo gas station is now located and I can remember when World War Two ended and how proud Americans were that we had been a part of the getting rid of Hitler and his ilk. Now, those who believe as Hitler did are coming into our neighborhoods with their violent attitudes and shouting their hate filled messages, negating all that was done to rid the world of that tripe in World War Two. True, the mayor is fostering racial tensions but the best way to rid the town of him and his cohorts is to vote him out of office, but that becomes hard to do when those who speak of his misdeeds fail to go out and vote. He could be recalled right now if some concerned citizen would take it upon him-or herself to go out and collect signatures. I would gladly do that job were it not for the difficulties I would face negotiating my scooter chair around town. Last two thoughts – if I remember correctly the town sherriff was Adrian Peevy and the problems with the blacks got the best of him and second, “Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.” That last thought is my plea for citizens of Jonesboro to remember the Civil War and how it started.

                    • praying Says:

Well At Home in Jomesboro, I do hope nothing like that happens. But like the ole’ saying goes there is always one rotten apple to spoil the bunch. That does for Whites or Blacks. I unfortunately do not live in the city limits, but the actions of the Mayor affect everyone in this parish. What would happen if I or my neighbors need help from the SO and they could not get here in time because they are handling something in town. I think, even though we don’t live in the city limits, we do shop in Jonesboro and that is our tax dollars too. We should be able to vote in the Mayors election. I do know, however that is not possible. I will continue to pray for our town and our citizens, white and black, that we are all safe and something can be done with Leslie before the Town of Jonesboro is no more.

                • sunrisesunset Says:

Get off your high horse. My innocent statement surely created turmoil for you.

Let’s get this right. You do not like Leslie. I do not like Leslie. You do not like the Ayran Nations or KKK. Neither did I say I liked the Ayran Nations, but I certainly agree with their message of “The mayor has to go”. And, that is your message, isn’t it? We (you & I) do not like the KKK. You do not like the NAACP do you? Neither do I like the NAACP.

So, I guess that puts us in the same boat. Since you called me a f****** racist, guess that makes you one, also.

However be forwarned that I am indeed NOT…..let me repeat……NOT a racist. So you can just zip it.

  7. Need justice Says:

I am glad that the sheriff stood up to the mayor, but as for as the prison goes, it is a joke, I bet if his family members were out there they wouldn’t be treated like the prisoners are getting treated now. How would his family like to eat rice and beans every day for every meal. But if the sorry ass da would do something about the mayor maybe we wouldn’t have this town problem now, but he won’t nor will the da office do anything about his buddy Reggie , that has been arrested 100 times in the past year and always let go. And as for the cops stopping people in town, that’s not but one man and I’m sure y’all know who it is, in the k-9 unit , enough said , but thanks again sheriff for standing up to he mayor, it’s time someone did other than Renee.

  8. KuRRDoGG Says:

The prisoners don’t deserve anything else. Lived off rice and beans a long time and I wasn’t in prison. They aren’t suffering because they eat beans and rice. Prison is a punishment not Burger King, can’t have it your way.

    • JPSO#1 Says:

they should have thought about their actions before they had to order off the same menu 24/7. They need to be thankful they ain’t in Joe Arpaio’s town, green slimy bologna…and that’s on a good day, pink under wear, chain gangs and work. They have it made in Jackson Parish, now pass them beans.

      • right on Says:

Exactly. I can’t believe people are whining about how law-breaking criminals are treated in prison. We need to go back to the old days when they do hard labor all day long and have water and bread for dinner. Beans would be a luxury dinner. If you don’t want to suffer, don’t commit crimes!

    • sunrisesunset Says:

Let me put this into perspective……… A cool place to stay in summer, a warm place to stay in winter, bed coverings for the appropriate season, meals that are not that bad I would think, exercise, maybe reading material, maybe a little television, medical treatment, and the list goes on.

Doesn’t sound too bad for criminals, does it?

  9. my2cents Says:

If the town doesn’t need a police dept, do they need a government? The parish should receive any revenue the town generates and there would be no need for the JPSO to bill anyone. Sorry Renee, you’re fighting a losing battle

  10. The Jet Says:

Wow, that letter is awesome. Its refreshing to see such direct wordsmithing from an elected official in this age of ultra-PC diplospeak. Sheriff Brown’s pimp hand is way strong.

And it is as I suspected; about two minutes of thought went into this before Leslie just hauled off and chainsawed the police department. And for all you pathetic Leslie defenders offering your whiniest attempts at turning the argument (B-b-but I thought all you rascist Tea Partiers wanted to CUT, and CONSOLIDATE, and STREAMLINE the government, and Leslie does that and ya’ll still hate him, y’alls RASCIST!!!!), listen kids, there is a right way to do that, and a wrong way. A few years back, the town of Abita Springs eliminated their police department. They elected a conservative Republican mayor, a Tea Partier before anyone was even using that phrase in a modern sense. He offered this idea to save the town money. They discussed it, they had a study done, they worked out a contract/MOA with the Sheriff of St. Tammany Parish, had a vote of their Council AND a ballot prop, which was approved by the voters. They eliminated their police force and chief, re-committed some of the public safety millage to pay a supplement to the Sheriff to cover the agreement cost, and refunded the rest to the taxpayers. But they did their due diligence and acted in the best interests of the town. Its worked out just fine so far for Abita Springs.

That is not what is happening in Jonesboro. What seems to be happening here, is that Leslie has gotten crossways with the Chief of Police, and decided instead of handling it like a mature adult, to pitch a fit and use vindictive political tactics to force his way. This is not about saving the town money. It is about consolidating power and redistributing the money to more politically ( personally?) beneficial purposes. He deprives a potential threat/enemy of a platform, overburdens another potential threat/enemy with a created crisis to distract him, redistributes the funding to suit his own purposes and strengthen and enrich himself and allies, consolidates power, and then washes his hands of the whole affair (higher crime and lack of police presence now can’t be blamed on him, talk to Sheriff Brown!).

But this move brings the problem right back to his desk, and it seems he will not just be able to dump his public safety vacuum onto someone else. Its gonna cost Jonesboro to put JPSO deputies on the streets, probably a lot more than your average JPD officer. Much more. Wanna know what happens when one local govt. body refuses to pay another for services rendered? More lawsuits. More state involvement. The last thing Leslie and his handlers want.

Come on Baton Rouge. Take the checkbook away. Faster please!

    • Anonymous Says:

Well stated, Jet. J’boro is the poster child for the result of electing persons to lead who have no successful career or financial experience. The mayor and his three(or four) yes votes are way beyond their learning curve and showing no improvement. The job doesnot require a college degree, just good people skills, leadership qualities, a solid record of personal financial success and of course personal intergity. Jboro’s administration has been an embarassment to it’s citizens, now it is has extended to the parish and the state. No matter how he spins it, it still comes out “losers”.

    • Carl Henson Says:

I have been watching this for a long time now and the king cannot act alone. This scenario is correct except, the king has to have the vote of his court to have all the authority to put into place the vindictive ideas that come from the recesses of his vindictive mind. The king is not the only vindictive one in your town though, take inventory. The king has managed to manipulate the unlearned and uninformed minds and one is just plain dunce, but he has managed to lead them to the jumping off place and that is what he is about to do, jump off the V-Train and let them crash and burn. You would think his history of throwing people under the bus, let’s see,” there was all the white women that just up and ran out of city hall when he first came to office, then there was the clerk that didn’t know what to do, then there was the deputy clerk he alleged that took all the money, then there was the clerk that wouldn’t go to the capitol city cause she had more important work to do, then there was the high priced accountant that didn’t train his clerk and didn’t tell him what bills to pay”,. and the list never stops. How sad his court was used to promote his agenda, to vote for his agenda and now they, not he, will pay the price. But, they had a choice, and they chose his agenda over the law, so may they remember him every time they have to pay a fine or do some time along with facing the people, I wonder if it was all worth it? Then you have all the Parish and State elected officials that have sat by and observed, all the while keeping their hands pristine and assuring themselves with the vote while your Town sinks into oblivion. So when you lay the blame, please don’t lay it all on the king, he has had many accomplices and many opportunities were provided for him and they were not all at his hands, he had a “network” and they were all more than willing to accommodate his actions and until you see a movement to indict, arrest and prosecute, you have nothing, well you do have one thing-a big juicy vote for the next round of nothing.

  12. for real Says:

or even better andy brown you make him remove this stuff?

  13. Messy Says:

Please do not remove our Mayor’s lights and horn…..we may need him to be a law enforcer/peacekeeper for the town at some point.

He and the Chief can patrol together.

Our Mayor, we know he works 24 hours a day taking care of business for Jonesboro since he told us so, may need to be called out on a disturbance. He can talk any one down and take the situation under control….look how he controls in the town meetings.

Heck….maybe the incoming calls can just be forwarded to his cell phone since there is no dispatch. He and the Rev Dill can rotate nights. Please remember to pay the Rev Dill more for being the dispatcher ….hey maybe we can get the Rev Dill a town car (there’s gonna be some police cars not being used) and a badge….using the town gas card to drive back and forth to his house in Bienville Parish.

There problem solved….two additional town cops to walk the beat….no funding needed.

It’s gonna be great day in Jonesboro….chill out and let Leslie solve all the little problems that come from having no Police Department.

Thanks Sheriff for working with Leslie….he will take care of you in return…..can get the vote out for you and maybe not ask to be a paid consultant for you.

Recall, why not require that the people in charge do their job, if you want a recall, start with the District .Attorney and then work you way down the list.

      • Anonymous Says:

Do you know for a fact Gina that the DA is remise in his job appointment ? Before the DA can do anything there has to be,not only evidence of a crime, but enough evidence to secure a conviction. But by all means conduct a recall vote and include the DA and perhaps that will force his hand to show the public just why it is he has not turned over the findings of his office to a Grand Jury. But by all means have a recall vote for this nit-wit of a Mayor. But if the black vote outnumbers the white vote in Jonesboro then it’s probably a moot point. Because we all know it is a matter of race, whether some want to admit it or not.

  15. Freddie Brown Says:

Thanks Andy – You do the Brown Family proud. Even though we don’t tell you enough, YOU DO A FANTASTIC JOB.
Sorry you had to get caught up in this mess. Just hang in there, JP needs your support and in return you’ll come out on top.

    • Please freddie Says:

Freddie, if you would have not run for mayor and let dusty run , the coon wouldn’t be in there now , dusty would have beat him hands down.

    • Brownie Says:

Just know Andy has been waiting to have your association to our name and most of all your seal of approval, now he can rest easy.

    • Anonymous Says:

Well isnt that sweet, Just what the parish needs.

  16. Clean house Says:

What the sheriff needs to do is to raid them quarters and catch the mayor holding one of his secret meeting with the blacks and the few whites that go to them .

  17. Anonymous Says:

Each household in Jonesboro that is billed for city utilities pays a fee for public safety. It itemized on the bill as public safety. Is it legal to do away with public safety and still bill the citizens for it?

  18. mmechelle Says:

Does anyone know what percent of annual city taxes goes to “public safety”? Other than the $2.00 per month we pay for additional neighborhood patrol?

The actions and plans of Sheriff Brown has got the mayor and the council in turmoil. They are running around like little roaches when you turn th elights on. They do not know what to do now. They are in a state of panic! You should see and hear it first hand, it is hilarious! God I wish I could sell tickets to it people would watch it more than they did the first moon landing! It is going to get interesting now, and do not be alarmed. I guarantee you we will see the return of the police department very soon now!

Great day in the morning! Would love to be a fly on the wall.

I sincerely hope Andy Brown put the moves on ol` Leslie……….moves, as in getting him to do SOMETHING.

IF YOUR ASSESSMENT IS CORRECT, THIS IS HILARIOUS.

  20. Aryan Nations World Headquarters Says:

Had the United States and Great Britian not backed Communist Russia in WWII and had the US and Great Britian fought on the side of righteousness, which would have been Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich and stamped out Bolshevism, Communism and the Jewish menace, then we would not have all of these negro problems with their cries of racism and civil rights in the U.S. today. All of these so called Civil Rights organizations are nothing more than communist fronts started by Jews, who were the ultimate victor of WWII and the rest of the world are the victims of their hatred for mankind. You never heard the term Judeo Christianity until after the Jews won the war and now they have corrupted the religious institution of Christianity. Judaism is anti-Christian, therefore Judeo Christianity is equal to anti-Christian Christianity. THINK PEOPLE !

    • WOW Says:

Gullet, you write so eloquently. I guess you had a lot of time to read while doing that prison stint for the attempted bank robbery. A damn convicted felon, what a joke. LMAO!!

      • Aryan Nations World Headquarters Says:

Argumentum ad Hominem (abusive and circumstantial): the fallacy of attacking the character or circumstances of an individual who is advancing a statement or an argument instead of trying to disprove the truth of the statement or the soundness of the argument. Often the argument is characterized simply as a personal attack.

You people are Funny, Gripping and bitching. I dont live in Jonesboro but I do live in Jackson Parish. The whole parish is a joke in North Louisiana. The DA wont do his job the Sheriff is given a pass for not doing his job. The black mayor has beaten the status quo at every turn but the white elected officials cow down to him not wanting to lose thier”BLACK VOTE” Jackson Parish Has had the same ole same ole politicians for ever. Bitching about it isnt gonna change anything. The decent people need to take voting seriously and vote them all OUT.

  22. Anonymous Says:

last time i checked the town of jonesboro is in jackson parish. thus a deputy can stop a person (vehicle) anywhere in the parish.

  23. Anonymous Says:

There would seem to be a simple solution to law enforcement in Jonesboro. Just have the sheriff deputize the nine police officers who lost their jobs, have them do the same thing they were doing before, pay them the same salary, and just bill the Town of Jonesboro for that amount. Same as before, just under a different boss.
