Starting Monday there will likely be one member of the Jonesboro Police Department — the chief.
Town officials last week approved their 2012-13 budget, set at $3.6 million, and made some significant cuts to some of the town’s services. Namely, the cuts came at the expense of the town’s police department.
The department will operate during the fiscal year on a $95,000 budget, but will likely cut nine officers, whittling the department to a force of one.
Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown is no fan of the measure.
“This is not something we support,” Brown said. “It is creating a burden and cutting into our manpower.”
Brown said the decision to cut the police department’s budget so severely had been brought up in the past, but he made no agreement with Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson.

Mrs. Blanche Shows has a very good article in July 5th’s issue of the Jackson Independent. She confronts issues headon and is absolutely correct and truthful in her logic.
Now, I guess there will be a reprimand and rant from non other than the high and mighty, Missus Simmons.

The best way to preserve the budget in Jonesboro is to cut the Mayor completely out of the budget. Start by having him pay back the $385,000 he spent that he can’t account for. The City of Jonesboro will be that much richer and have less of a financial burden. Think of all the money Jonesboro will save in cleanup fees from sweeping up the mess left by Leslie Thompson. It is a win win situation for Jonesboro and Louisiana taxpayers. We are watching you Jonesboro.

OK if you believe in fair then since the NAACP came to town to back the Mayor’s play and accusations of racism over the investigation then it was only fair that the Aryan Nations came to town to confront the Mayor and the NAACP about the situation. Why is that being a sorry redneck racist. The blacks have the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, the United Negro College Fund, the Rainbow Push Coalition Acorn and other groups but when a organization comes along that stands up for white people they’re labeled redneck racists. Aryan Nation, Al Sharpton, KKK, Jesse Jackson, etc. all promote disharmony and hate. They are all about getting ahead by promoting fear and dislike of a specific race. They pray on the ignorant and completely stupid to propel their agendas. Somehow I had hoped we would all behave better than to succumb to hate groups. Just because the “mayor” does it, doesn’t mean we have to play his game.
Yes, it is frustrating to witness the continuing abuses of the legal system and the cries of “racism” where none exists. But, it is also difficult to dissuade some from it considering you guys promote and support the Aryan Nation. A group which is labeled as domestic terrorists. Ever notice how Grambling, Gibsland, Town of Jonesboro, Monroe City School System is continually in trouble because of ill practices? Ever wonder is these officials are white or black. I can tell you without hesitation………all are black.

“We have the sheriff’s department right across the street from the police department and to continue to duplicate those services didn’t seem to be something that I think would be in the town’s best interest,” Thompson said. “The budget also reinstates funding for animal control. These cuts are necessary to keep Jonesboro heading in the right direction out of financial trouble.”
Thompson and Horton said the chief will still enforce town ordinances and laws and conduct regular patrols. Thompson also said he would be willing to set up a contract with the Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement.
“That is something we could look at,” Thompson said.

I think Rev Dill is going down with Thompson…..his claims of knowing nothing is not going to hold up in court ….especially since his initials are typed on all the documents and he now has the title of Dy Clerk (I am assuming this is deputy clerk….meaning one high up on the ladder)

It’s as if he forgets….the town is in financial difficult because of him. He cannot account for missing money. He hires a deputy clerk who is accused of stealing; but, has yet to go to court. Why is that? Mr. DA? He hires a supposed expert grant writer who gets grants for his precious airport and the idiotic “walking trail” to appease two people. And, then when the law starts looking into things she vaporizes into thin air. Anyone else wonder why she has completed disappeared? Is she wanted somewhere? He brings on a pickle to be his assistant clerk but the assistant clerk, by his own admission, knows nothing about the money. An assistant who is also supposedly a preacher. He doubles his administrative staff and his own salary. He takes away animal control because he has issues with a council member who is concerned about animals but brings it back because people are fed up with strays and he has to give his buddy a job. He spouts racism and inept white accountants; but, then he brings her (Wade) back. I believe the tactic is to confound and confuse and run in a zig zag pattern; but, eventually after running for so long you do get caught.

Have you ever thought of this scenario-they come in and appoint this person, this person works and gets things in order, who is going to keep them in order after they are gone? Without a new administration, the Town of Jonesboro will have spent more money to just have a another cycle of mismanagement and all the other that goes hand in hand with what is a current ongoing situation. How much money will the State and Town keep throwing at this inept person?

The former Deputy Commissioner of Minority Affairs, Richard Chambers, who retired two years ago after 21 years in the position, was charged Monday in Baton Rouge with racketeering in an ongoing FBI probe.
The FBI’s ongoing Operation Blighted Officials investigation has resulted in felony convictions against four Baton Rouge-area mayors, a city council member and a police chief since 2010.

From The News-Star of 7-2-12: Leslie Thompson: ‘Poor economy forced my hand and the actions of the town council.” Then why did he and the council double his salary, and increase the administrative budget by $120,000 over the previous year, when they are doing nothing to justify it? “We have the sheriff’s department right across the street, and to duplicate their services does not seem to be in the town’s best interest?” In the first place, they are on opposite sides of town, three blocks apart, and what does that have to do with how much they should be budgeted?

Don’t see anything in the budget about money for these high-priced out of town lawyers. Maybe the fiscal administrator will take it out of the mayor’s and town council member’s salary, who caused all the trouble, instead of from taxpayers who had nothing to do with it (well, some of them did — the ones who voted for these four people).
