A public hearing and special called meeting of the Town of Jonesboro’s board of aldermen will be held tomorrow, June 25, at the W. Richard Zuber City Hall, 128 Allen Avenue.
Here is the agenda.
The public hearing is for interested citizens to comment upon the proposed 2012-2013 fiscal year budget for the town. Afterwards the budget will be voted upon by the board in the special meeting.

Just got through looking at that proposed budget they will vote on shortly. $70,000 for an ineffective mayor; $5,000 for travel; $0 for the upkeep of the cemetery that was just recently acknowledged to belong to the town of Jonesboro; a cut in the supplemental pay for the fire and police departments is certainly sure to help attract qualified firemen and policemen; $0 dollars for animal control; $1,044,400 for an airport that is seldom used (I wish that someone would do a study of just how many airplanes use the facility, not counting private citizens of Jonesboro who store their airplanes there); $17,000 for entertainment and marketing – our mayor, on his own, lets others in the state know about Jonesboro through is outlandish and stupid actions. There is more, but if the citizens (especially Messy) are so certain that nothing is wrong in Jonesboro, I guess I should just shut up and let the citizens have what they have.

they do have what they have, thanks to the fervent defense of the local and state elected officials that have been defending all that has happened and continues to happen. they are stuck until the next election. they just need to eat some cheese with that whine.

Look how nice the Rev David J Dill is…doing all the typing for the Mayor. I see he finally has an important title…Dy Clerk…not sure what the Dy is for….Does we have a Dy at the town hall that needs to be clerked?

The Deputy Town Clerk assumes the same responsibilities and functions of the Town Clerk.
The Town Clerk’s Office is often thought to be the center of Town government as it provides a wide variety of services that are essential to citizens in their involvement with Town functions. It is the Official Filing Office for the Town and maintains all official records of Town government and public activities. The Town Clerk is also the Records Management Officer responsible for the archives of Town records and official activities.
As the Clerk of the Town Board, the Town Clerk’s Office records the proceedings of Town meetings and keeps the formal record of all Town actions. The Town Clerk is also the License Issuing Officer and the Public Information Officer. In these capacities, the Town Clerk serves the public with assured access to Town records and offers residents convenient access for state and local licenses.
Rev Dill is important to the Town of Jonesboro….not sure if he has an official job description …so I found him one on the internet.

Look how nice our Mayor is ….he is helping get our airport in top notch shape for all the white folks….and that is a really small number of folks…like less than ten. As for as I know, it is a white airport….I sure do not know no blacks with planes in Jonesboro. Maybe Dr. Simmons can help get the Mayor a plane.
And you all want to claim Mayor Thompson is racist. If he was racist he would not be getting the white airport so nice. Even though it is grant money, this brings the total moneys spent to about 1.5 million on an airport that just a few white folks use….and if things at Jonesboro were not in such good shape, our mayor would not be spending over 1 millon on the airport…he gots better smarts than that…if the roads or sewer needed repairs, you know he would repair the roads and sewers first. Lot’s more folks, black and white, use the roads and sewers.
Heck, I bet Delta or American gonna want to start using our airport. When I am out near the airport, the dumpster on that road gets way more traffic than the airport. But hey, the airport sure looks good….just empty.
Maybe the Mayor gots a plan to generate some town income by renting out the airport to Fed Ex or UPS…I am sure has a good plan in mind for the town of Jonesboro’s airport.

I can not make the meeting today. Short notice on the announcement and also time of day is difficult for those of us who work.
Surely, the Mayor and Dy Clerk did not think either of the above mentioned items would deter public attendance.
Wait, could the last minute notice be that someone just realize that July 1, the start of the new budget year, is right around the corner and they forgot to take care of this business at the last regular meeting. And there has to be a budget in place (on paper nonetheless)
Still not sure if they are so darn clever (like the fox in the hen house) or just plain ignorant?
How is the audit coming along?
Is there an ACTUAL printout showing the ACTUAL expenses for the past 11 months to compare this proposed budget against?
Sidebar – who was the previous Deputy Clerk? When was Rev Dill promoted from Mayor’s assistant? Did the new title come with a pay raise for the Rev Dill? Guess at the next meeting in Baton Rouge, Rev Dill should not be able to attest to having no knowledge regarding the money situation if he is the Deputy Clerk…..

I think it is your esteemed mayor that wants to spend the money on the airport. Maybe he is going to become a pilot and buy the town a plane so he can travel to and fro to Texas to check on that new hotel he was supposed to get for Jonesboro…..right on the 4-lane.
Or, maybe he just may want to fly in “The Donald” for advice before the Taj Mahal is built. Ha!

If the Airport is supported by grants……..let me remind everyone of this…….grant money is given based on your ability to have a clean audit. As for as I know, TOJ still hasn’t gotten one, so therefore there will be zero money spent on the airport and any other programs supported by grant money. I don’t care what the “budget” says……grant money will not be there for TOJ to take advantage of…….which is sad!

surely there has to be some news by now about the meeting to deal with the “imaginary budget” for the money that TOJ isn’t going to get/have this year!!!! It can’t take too long to adopt a worthless budget surely!!
